Can you believe August is just a few days away? The kids are starting their last week of summer camp today, and then we’ll be in full-on prep mode for the new school year! One of which is coming up with some cute back-to-school outfits that my kids can wear.
Dylan turned 7 a few weeks ago and will be going into first grade! I can’t believe he’s such a big boy now. I still remember the day I sat in the car crying after dropping him off at his 2-year old toddler Montessori classroom for the first time. 😭 Where does the time go??
It’ll actually be a big year for Mei as she’s now 4 years old and transitioning from her small Montessori school to the much larger private school where Dylan attends. As a mom, it’s bittersweet to see my kids growing up. But I also remember the excitement that I always felt when I had my first day of school coming up. Both Dylan and Mei love picking out new outfits so I figured there was no better way to get them pumped up for the new school year than by stocking up their closet with a few new looks from Walmart!
2 Cute Back-to-School Outfits
Walmart Outfits #1
This first set of outfits was Dylan and Mei’s first pick that they just could not wait to wear. As a mom, I especially love that it just represents their style and personality so well!
Dylan lives in graphic tees and this one has basically all of his favorite things. And of course, this boy never has enough cargo shorts as they are a staple he wears all the way through the end of October! These have an elasticized waistband (perfect for this guy who never seems to have the patience to properly button his pants! 😂) and are so affordable that I actually bought them in 3 colors!
Mei is my girly-girl and loves her pretty dresses! The flowy swing dresses always seem to be her go-to pick these days, and this rainbow stripe one is soft, stretchy, and just plain comfortable. Mei has also been going through a bit of a growth spurt and has outgrown most of her summer sandals, so when I spotted this cute pink pair I knew it was a winner. I just loved the simple yet classic single-strap look that reminded me of the sandals I wore in my childhood! These have great cushioning, and Mei hasn’t had any problems wearing these for longer walks. Note, however, that the buckle is real (others we’ve had were a faux buckle sewn on top of Velcro 😆). After I gave her a crash course on buckling, Mei actually has loved the challenge of working the buckle every time when putting on these shoes!
Walmart Back-T0-School Outfits #2
These second looks are another great option for the end-of-summer days that will transition into the start of school. Dylan has been talking non-stop about wanting to see the new The Lion King movie, and while it’s on our agenda for the next couple of weeks, he was excited to sport some Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa in this fun Hakuna Matata tee. You’ll also have to check out his new Minecraft backpack below as it’s seriously his new favorite thing — he and his friends are completely obsessed with Minecraft!
As for our Mei, another day means another pretty dress! How cute is this one with the adorable bunny displayed with colorful sequins! The yellow pouf is a whimsical addition and even the back has an adorable bow detail. Mei also requested a “big-girl backpack” of her own for her new school (😭 cue all the mom feels!), and this one with unicorns and rainbows was right up her alley!
And lastly, I couldn’t help but pick up a little somethin’ for myself and stumbled across this colorful stripe halter dress! I love the beautiful mix of colors and while the shift dress was a little too blousy on my petite frame, it was an easy fix with a simple white skinny belt. Love that Walmart prices usually let me have a little bit leftover so I can treat myself to something new too!
