3 Must Have Beauty Products for Spring
Farsali Unicorn Essence ($54)
Farsali is a pretty new up-and-coming brand but it has definitely reached “Insta-famous” status as I’ve seen it on nearly every beauty influencer that I follow!
While the “Unicorn Essence” name and the Pepto-pink sparkle product initially made me wary, I couldn’t be more obsessed with product now that I’ve tried it and completely understand the cult following that it’s generated.
The essence is water-based and dual-purpose as it can be used both as a daily serum and as a makeup primer! It’s formulated with four superfruit extracts loaded with powerful anti-aging antioxidants: acai berry, goji berry, elderberry, and blueberry. Together these also provide Vitamin C and protect from free-radical damage while enhancing skin tone and preparing for longer-lasting makeup!
I started out using this product as a makeup primer and the light pink hue along with the subtle shimmer give the most gorgeous radiant glow to my skin and honestly, many days I apply this alone over my moisturizer and SPF when I don’t have time for foundation. It’s amazing for giving some color to my skin and makes me look vibrant and alive – plus I love that it’s actually protecting my skin! The water-based formula absorbs instantly and is a must-have especially if you’re looking a little more pale coming out of winter! I’ve even seen it used on the lips as a primer / gloss and will have to try that next!
I am all about the palettes as they are a lifesaver when I’m rushed in the mornings and don’t have time to worry about coordinating colors. If I’m being honest, most days I apply my makeup in the car after I’ve dropped off the kids at school and this palette has it all with a side for eyeshadows and another for cheeks!
Urban Decay always kills it with their palettes but this one is hands-down my favorite (and trust me, the UD Naked palette is a tough one to top!). This Backtalk palette just dropped on March 8 and was inspired by the best-selling Urban Decay ‘Backtalk’ Vice lipstick shade (it’s actually the color I’m wearing in the photos here!). The mix of nude-mauve, soft berry, and muted rose colors do not disappoint!
2 blushes / 2 highlights
On one side are 8 new eyeshadow colors in coordinating pale pink nudes to darker rose colors with some in matte formulas and others with a suble shimmer. The other side features 4 shades of highlighter / blush and even though I had originally wanted the palette for the eyeshadows, the blush and highlight shades are what ended up totally selling me on this palette! The Party Foul highlight has the most beautiful subtle sheen to it that isn’t over the top but gives you that little pop when it hits the light just right! I even applied some to the tip of my nose (a tip I learned from Steph recently!) and find that it really adds a bit of youthfulness to the overall look! And I went a little heavier with the Double Talk blush here but love the rosy color and it’s the perfect flush for the cheeks that just adds a sexy flush!
For my look here I used:
Bare: all over eyelid
Backtalk: crease transition color
180: outer v to deepen contrast
Curve: added just in the middle of the eyelid last to add dimension
3 Sheets: browbone highlight
Party Foul: cheek and nose highlight
Double Take: blush (seriously so beautiful!)
The shades apply softer than typical Urban Decay colors but I actually prefer it as it gives a more wearable look for everyday (especially now that I’m in my mid-30s, it’s harder to pull off the bolder colors sometimes!). The two sides of the palette are separated with a magnetized mirror and I love that it gives me everything I need for being on the go!
I’m someone who prioritizes skincare, makeup, and lastly my hair. I always go through my entire skincare routine in the mornings and will apply minimal makeup time-permitting and lastly comes my hair. I will often sleep with my hair in foam rollers if I know I need to have it look “done” but otherwise I’ve been going for a more windswept tousled look lately that I feel is so great for an everyday casual spring look!
I was first introduced to the DevaCurl brand about 5 years ago from my hairdresser and was excited to try out their latest Wave Maker Touchable Texture Whip product! This product is meant to be used on wet hair to give a natural wave yet for me, I actually found the best results when I used this product to revive old curls. I smooth a dime-sized amount onto my hands and scrunch my hair all around – I end at my roots and use whatever product is remaining at my scalp to give my hair some extra volume! I love that the product isn’t heavy as I have super fine hair and it does an amazing job at taming my flyaways too!
I picked up my products at the Sephora inside JCPenney as I love that I can shop at JCPenney for fashion and get my beauty fix at Sephora all at once! Be sure to stop by your local store to see what’s trending this spring and let me know if you give these products that I’m loving a try!
