I’m on a big beauty kick right now and lately my focus has been all about my skin. From lotions and serums to foundations and sprays, I’ve been looking into how to make my skin took better both naturally and with the help of makeup! Airbrush makeup has been around for awhile now and it’s been something I’ve been wanting to try for years. I’ve always wondered — Is the hype really true? Is it worth it? I got my hands on the Luminess Airbrush Makeup System almost two months ago and have been putting it to the test. After quite a bit of trial and error, I’m finally here now ready to share my review with you all (and be sure to read on for an exclusive 25% off coupon code!).

The Luminess Airbrush Makeup System kit comes beautifully packaged and contains a small compressor (fits in the palm of your hand), a stylus, 4 shades of foundation, highlighter, primer, blush, and bronzer. You can even customize the color of your compressor as it comes in 4 different colors — rose gold, aqua, hot pink, and white. Similarly, there are also 4 different foundation lines to choose from depending on the finish and coverage you like — choices include matte, mystic, silk, and ultra. All foundation formulas are mineral based, oil-free, and hypoallergenic so it’s great even for everyday use. Their products are never tested on animals, sweat / water resistant, and even wear up to 18 hours!
I opted for the Silk Foundation that’s meant for a more sheer-to-medium coverage and provides a silky smooth finish. While I did apply some eye makeup in the picture below, my face is foundation free and you can see that my main skin concern is hyper pigmentation around my cheekbones as well as minor redness on the sides of my nose.
no foundation (some eye makeup only).
hyperpigmentation on cheekbones and redness around the nose
When it came to actually applying the makeup via the airbrush machine, it was surprisingly simple.
- Plug in the A/C adaptor to the compressor and turn it on.
- Select the shades you’ll be using and shake each bottle for a few seconds until it’s evenly mixed.
- Drop the product into the stylus.
- Pull back halfway on the stylus to spray.
For me I’ve found that it’s best to err on using less product. Each bottle has the suggested number of drops printed on the front and I found that the minimum suggested number of drops to work out well in my case. When spraying, it’s best to position the stylus about 6″ away from your face. The product feels like a light misting when it’s applied and you’ll want to keep moving in small circular motions to avoid any large deposits.
For my foundation, my perfect match was a combination of shades one and two — I used 3 drops of shade two and 1 drop of shade one. I was surprised at just how precise I could be with the airbrush stylus and could really target specific areas of my face such as the sides of my nose as well as under eyes where I wanted more coverage. There’s also a distinct difference in the sound that is made when the product is starting to run low and you can feel a difference too when it’s just air being sprayed out rather than product.
how pretty is this stylus?
The results speak for themselves! Below is a shot of my face with just the airbrush primer + foundation applied. I couldn’t believe how smooth and natural my skin looked! The freckles around my cheekbones were virtually unnoticeable and my skin looked basically flawless. You couldn’t see my pores, wrinkles, or blemishes! I also especially liked the fact that the Silk foundation was infused with neem extract, something known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial properties. The makeup never felt heavy or looked cakey and it took only a few tries for me to get used to knowing how far away to hold the stylus as well as how to move it such that the product was evenly distributed.

I went on to use the blush, bronzer, and glow. I have to say that the glow drops are my favorite as it made a huge difference in brightening up my face! And while I am no pro when it comes to highlighting / contouring, the Luminess Airbrush System actually made it easy as I didn’t need to spend any time blending it out afterwards!
