Watch: Michael Kors ‘Lexington’ MK5556 (buy, similar)
One of the things about getting older and figuring out my style is that I’m suddenly not as scared to splurge a little on “investment pieces” that know will last in my closet season after season and even from pre-pregnancy to post-pregnancy. Five years ago I would’ve scoffed at the idea of spending any more than $50 for a skirt. But now, after having run the gamut of pencil skirts from Forever 21, LOFT, Banana Republic, and J.Crew, I can attest that the ones from J.Crew just seem to fit my body the best and are the most worn items in my closet — in particular, the No. 2 pencil skirt. The structure and weight of the skirt is perfect and the flattering silhouette makes it timeless classic. Surprisingly, it was actually the only pencil skirt in my closet that looked decent on my post-baby body when I had to return to work at 3 months. And so when a 25% off sale popped up a couple weeks ago, I decided to pull the trigger on this pretty thing. 🙂
Also, if anyone is interested in the Banana Republic gingham skirt that I posted a couple days ago, I have an extra in size 00P that I ordered and used a reward certificate with when it first came out (I later re-ordered when BR had a 40% flash sale). Since I noticed that size 00P is sold out online, I figured I’d offer it to anyone here who was interested before returning it to the store. I’m selling it for exactly the same amount that I paid for it plus shipping: $79.50 – $10 rewards + 8.25% tax + $3.50 shipping = $78. Just comment below or email me if you’re interested!
Have a great weekend!

I love love love this outfit! I actually have the sweater with the antique floral print, and never would have thought to combine it with a pastel pink item. I will have to try that! xo

You look gorgeous! The colour of that coat is so beautiful! And I love your necklace as well!:) x |Life as a Petite|
I'm still really bad about spending money on clothes–I prefer thrifting. But I do take a lot more into account when I shop than when I was younger like you mention. Especially being pregnant now. I need to make sure I can wear things in pregnancy and afterwards. I love this skirt on you and the trench!
The outfit screams spring!
I'm absolutely in love with this print from J.Crew! I'm also definitely one to invest in pieces I know I'll wear again and again. I'm still establishing a good base in my closet but I've come a long way in the past year. Now I can start to focus on more statement pieces verses staples.

Your pink coat is absolutely gorgeous! I love how you paired it with the floral skirt– so classy and still so spring!
I love the skirt, and the J.Crew no 2 is such a popular one! They don't work on me though, my hips are too big and my waist is too small!
Love it!
That skirt is awesome! I have noticed I am more willing to spend more as I get older too – especially on things that I'll have forever. You look gorgeous!
thank you girl!
I love that floral skirt!! So pretty on you! It's great to find a brand and fit that works perfectly for your shape!
amazing! Love all the pink!

Love the outfit, Kileen! The skirt is pretty, but I don't know if I'm ready to fork out $200. I hope it goes on sale.
I picked it up during a 25% off sale so it wasn't quite that expensive. Still a lot of money but hopefully it'll get it's worth out of lots of wear.
I like this outfit. So sophisticated!
