Mules have been a huge trend that really gained traction this past summer and it’s bigger than ever come fall / winter! Mules are essentially backless shoes and as a busy mom that is always wrangling kids, backpacks and everything else as I head out the door, the fact that I can slip these on hands-free and look put together is a lifesaver! Plus, I love how comfortable the best mules are and the fact that I can go from work to playtime with the little ones without missing a beat. I’ve rounded up my favorites best mules that I own (and that you need, obviously) as well as a few others I have my eye on.
Almost forgot, I’ve found that most slip-on mules tend to run a half-size small. To prevent the back of your heel from hanging off the back of the shoe, I would recommend going up a half size in every case!
The Best Mules: Nude Mules
Blazer: Faux Fur Trim Blazer – runs TTS / wearing XS (highly recommend detangler brush to smooth out fur!)
Top: Banana Republic (old, similar)
Bottom: AG Step-Hem Jeans – run TTS / wearing 25 (similar, similar)
Shoes: Halogen ‘Corbin’ (almost exact dupe, similar)
Bag: Minkoff Chevron Quilted ‘Love’ Crossbody
Earrings: Baublebar ‘Gabriela’
Sunglasses: Gucci Oversized Square Sunglasses 54mm
Nude shoes go with everything and these have been a pair that I wear constantly! While this color from Halogen has sold out, I found an exact dupe on Amazon and for less! I am definitely picking up a backup pair since I know I’ll be wearing these well into the spring next year. While the leather of these mules is super soft, I will warn you that they have a tendency to scuff pretty easily. I’ve had mine for about 2 months now and while they are starting to show a few marks in the toe area, I feel like it’s just part of the sacrifice you make for buttery smooth leather.
More nude mules I love:
The Best Mules: Black Mules
And just like nude shoes are a must, so are black ones! Being the bow lover that I am, I couldn’t help myself with this pair and love that it’s a very feminine take on what can be a more masculine pair of black shoes. This would be a great pair to stash in your bag with the upcoming holiday parties to change into once your feet get tired of heels. You’ll still be dancing the night away and won’t have to be that girl walking barefoot (trust me, I’ve been there!). I also love this pair for a sophisticated yet feminine option.
More black mules I’m loving:
The Best Mules: Printed / Embellished
Blazer: J.Crew Ruffle Chino Jacket – runs TTS / wearing 00 (similar)
Top: Alternative Cotton V-Neck (just bought this nicer option)
Bottom: Express Linen High-Waisted Sash Pant (super similar)
Shoes: Sam Edelman ‘Augustine’ Mules – 10% off! (similar)
Earrings: Baublebar ‘Rosita’ Drops
Bag: old (similar)
Leopard shoes are my favorite way to add some print into my outfit and I actually own leopard pumps, flats, and of course, now mules. This pair from Sam Edelman has real calf hair instead of just a print which really helps elevate the overall look. Plus, that hammered gold heel! But if you’re not into leopard print, mules with various prints ranging from bees to flowers to even pom poms are hitting the scene and they’re such a fun way to dress up your shoe game!
Gucci first debuted their fur-lined mules and while they’re kind of like a hybrid between a fuzzy slipper and a shoe, I have to admit that they just look so warm! Thankfully if you can’t afford Gucci, there are lots of similar options available and I absolutely love this green velvet pair that Emily recently shared (plus it’s under $90!). This would be such a cute pair to wear as the weather cools down and actually think the fur makes it look so luxe! And this pair — how gorgeous is that floral print and love it with the tassels!
These are amazing:
