As I get older, I’ve become increasingly careful about taking good care of my skin. I strongly believe that clear, healthy skin is the key to looking young and feeling your best. While I’m all about using makeup to highlight certain features and hide imperfections, I’m also a big proponent about feelign comfortable in your own skin, makeup free! I will often go sans makeup on the weekends and find that it’s a great break for to let my skin breathe.
Unfortunately, I didn’t always feel comfortable going without makeup. Not many people know, but I’ve suffered from a moderate case of eczema for the last 8 years. I get it only on my face — in the corners of my eyes and on either side of my nose. It shows up as a bumpy, red rash and occasionally results in irritated, peeling skin. While steroid creams would temporarily heal my eczema, I actually found that changing my diet and lifestyle made the biggest difference for the long-term. I went paleo and removed all processed foods from our home, in addition to switching the products that I use to those that were all naturally derived and free of parabens and sulphates. It took a few months for me to notice a difference in my eczema condition, but slowly but surely my body started healing itself on its own. It’s so liberating now to be able to go makeup free and not feel like I have anything to hide!
Rosacea is another skin redness issue and although I am lucky enough not to deal with it personally, I do know how it can make you want to hide your skin behind makeup. Fortunately, there is a solution in a quick and easy to use gel called Mirvaso®. Mirvaso® (brimonidine) Topical Gel, 0.33%* is the first and only gel specifically developed and proven to reduce the persistent facial redness of rosacea. Results are seen quickly and last up to 12 hours.
Mirvaso’s website has incredible information on skin care and rosacea redness. The best part is that they’re holding an amazing sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip to the Emmys!
Join me in committing to being comfortable in your own skin and break up with your makeup!

Agree with Laura, you're beautiful! I usually have clear skin and am comfortable going makeup free but recently I've broken out all over my face: chin, cheeks, forehead. It's almost like an allergic reaction so I've stopped using anything new and went back to my tried and true routine but it's not working, yet. Sucks because you want to cover it all up but then again, most of that stuff is bad for skin. Never ending cycle of yuck for me right now.

Ugh it does sound like an allergic reaction! Hopefully going back to your previous regimen will clear everything up. Good luck!

You look gorgeous even without makeup! I have rosacea and it's really hard to hide the redness. I've never heard or Mirvaso – will look into it.

I used to never go makeup free but now I do on the weekends. I don't even wash my hair! 🙂

I'm the same way! Dry shampoo and ponytails for the win. 😉

You look beautiful with or w/out make-up, Kileen. I wish I could go make-up free. However, I've been getting cystic acne and when it finally clears up, another will pop up. It's never ending. 🙁
Kileen says
ugh, i hate that. i had a period in college where I was suffering from cystic acne breakout cycles too. i ended up going on the Proactiv system for awhile and that seemed to really help…
Candice says
I've tried using Proactiv before, but it dries out my skin. I just want the acne scar marks to go away so I can go bare face.

🙁 I know what you mean. I had hyperpigmentation issues after my pregnancy and did 3 treatments of IPL that really helped (found a deal on Groupon so price wasn't that bad). Not sure if it helps acne scars but maybe?
