Blueberry Hill Farms
Growing up, one of my favorite memories is going to a “u-pick” fruit farm in the summertime. From the hours-long drive out to a small town to the slathering of sunscreen and bug repellent to coming home with barrels of fruit that we’d then eat until my stomach hurt. 😆 It was all part of the experience!
I’ve had it on my bucket list for years now to take the kids to a pick-your-own farm and now that they’re a little older at 4 and 6 years old, I figured now was the perfect opportunity! I had a friend of mine recommend Blueberry Hill Farms and Nursery out in Edom, TX (about 1.5 hours east of Dallas) as they had previously taken their similarly-aged kids and had a blast.
This was my first road trip since having bought my car last December, so it almost like two mini milestones in one! We saw a Kroger just as we got just outside of Dallas and it was so easy to pick up a few snacks as well as fuel up for the trip! From now until June 23 on Thursdays through Sundays, take advantage of double the fuel points when you use your Kroger card to get gas. It’s as easy as just signing in and clicking the button to load the digital coupon to your Kroger card! Love that Kroger is making those summer road trip memories that much more affordable.
A little less than 90 minutes later, we made it to Blueberry Hill Farms and grabbed empty buckets to start picking! We had over 15 rows of blueberry bushes to pick from and while they were just starting to ripen, we found ourselves with a whole bucket-full in no time. The blueberries are safe enough to eat right off the bush and we may have taste tested just a few before they made it into our baskets!
We actually lucked out and had the most beautiful weather — not too had and a slight breeze that made it perfect to be outside! I do recommend bringing hats as it does get sunny as well as closed-toe shoes to protect against a few spikey patches of grass. Mei had an outfit change halfway through as she did get a mosquito bite on her back so I do recommend some bug spray an extra set of clothes for your little ones just in case!

We ended our trip on a sweet note with blueberry soft serve ice cream for everyone! Highly recommend as it was such a unique flavor and absolutely delicious. We had a great time at Blueberry Hill Farms and I have a feeling it’ll be a new summer tradition!
Have you ever been to a U-pick farm? Any road trips planned for the summer?
