Last weekend we took Dylan out for his first Easter egg hunt at the Dallas Arboretum! I had been talking it up all week, telling him that he would meet the Easter bunny and collect eggs to take home. He’s an egg-lover to begin with (he usually requests eggs for breakfast and can finish 2) and has been loving the little plastic eggs we’ve seen in the stores lately. There was a big Easter bunny sitting on the steps right as we walked in and while Dylan was so excited to see him initially, his big-scary-animal impulse kicked in once we got closer. After a few friendly introductions with the bunny, we finally managed to get him warmed up and picture happy!
Then it was on to the egg hunt…
Dylan scrambled around at first, excited to see the different eggs!
He was a master egg collector and would point out the eggs to me before picking them up. Funny thing was, after having collected 2 eggs, he decided that 2 was enough and didn’t want any more! He took his basket over to my purse, carefully dropped each one inside, and then started running over to see the tram that was parked nearby! Obviously, plastic eggs are no match for a cool motorized vehicle. 🙂
Little did we know though, the real fun was to begin later that afternoon!
Dylan figured out that little chocolate candies were inside of each egg! We don’t keep much chocolate in the house and even when Dylan had previously been given chocolate candy, we never unwrapped it for him so he just never realized that you could eat it. Well, this time he figured out how to unwrap the chocolates and had his first taste of the good stuff!
This boy was in chocolate heaven. Happy Easter! 🙂

You both look awesome! So much fun, yay for first chocolate! Our son is the same age and he understood this year how to collect the plastic eggs. The first one he picked up, he knew it opened! He was so entranced by the first egg that we had to help him understand there were a lot more to be found. Glad you all had a happy Easter.
haha, Dylan has been playing with the plastic eggs for a couple weeks now so he knew that they opened up. the surprise though was that there was candy inside! i have a feeling now that our kiddos know the deal with the egg hunt, next year is gonna be a totally different story!
