I’ve always been interested in health and wellness and recently heard about a simple test that could help identify food sensitivities. I’ve actually been struggling with some really bad eczema flare-ups the past few weeks, and after reading that cutting out certain foods that didn’t react well with my body could help with some of these issues, I knew I had to give it a try. Foods can also cause symptoms such as headaches, stomach pain, gut malabsorption, and fatigue, but thankfully with the EverlyWell Food Sensitivity Test, there’s now an easy way to identify possible triggers in our diet.
I actually purchased the EverlyWell Food Sensitivity Test Kit on my own but after sharing it on my stories, EverlyWell reached out asking if I’d like to collaborate and share my review and thoughts with you all in a post. Given that I was already thinking about sharing anyways, I of course said yes!
Who Is EverlyWell?
The Food Sensitivity Test is from EverlyWell, and they are the makers of over 30 at-home tests that address areas such as food sensitivity, women’s fertility, metabolism, thyroid, and even stress and inflammation. The tests offer an easy sample collection process, free shipping, and results that are physician reviewed and available in less than a week!
How Does The Process Work?
The whole process couldn’t be simpler and here it is broken down from start to finish:
- First order a kit online — save 15% with my referral link!
- The test kit will arrive in the mail and inside there will detailed instructions, collection supplies, sample container(s), as well as a pre-paid shipping package to mail the sample back to the lab.
- Register your kit on the Everlywell website and you can sign up to receive real-time text or email updates throughout the entire process. Updates include when the sample is in transit, received by the lab, as well as when the test results are ready. It actually gave me a lot of peace of mind just knowing where my test was in the whole process!
- The test is completed entirely in the comfort of home! Based on the test, there will be instructions given on when to take it and whether or not you to eat / drink anything beforehand. For many of the tests, a finger prick is needed to provide a small blood sample on a collection card that is then sent back to the lab.
- Then just drop everything in the prepaid envelope and ship it back via USPS.
- Results come back in about 5 business days (seriously so fast!).
My Food Sensitivity Results
Ok, so now on to how the test works as well as a glimpse of my results! The EverlyWell Food Sensitivity Test measures the body’s IgG immune response to 96 foods that are commonly found in western diets. While a food allergy can manifest itself rather quickly, IgG immune responses can actually take hours or days to develop, making it difficult to figure out the exact food that is causing the issue. I love that the Food Sensitivity Test makes the whole process of identifying certain triggering foods so much easier!
The EverlyWell Food Sensitivity Test results are broken down into 4 categories based on reactivity: high, moderate, mild, and low. Here’s a peek at my reactivities:
I wasn’t surprised at all that cheese / dairy products were at the top of my list given that I know I’m lactose intolerant (see my 23 and Me anestry results). Those products have never sat well in my stomach but it was definitely good confirmation. I was, however, surprised by the green beans and kelp results at moderate reactivity! I don’t eat green beans actually very often but do have kelp whenever I have miso soup or eat sushi (which is actually quite often).
Both egg whites and egg yolks were on my mild reactivity list, which was also a surprise for me given that I have eggs 2-3 times a week. Sadly coffee was also on the list but it’s been something I had actually been cutting out for awhile now as I’ve noticed it helps with my anxiety.
The EverlyWell Food Sensitivity Test results go on to provide a detailed explanation of each reactivity and it was such an interesting read to understand why certain foods may cause reactions in the body:
Next Steps
The antibody IgG immune response that the EverylyWell Food Sensitivity Test tests for can offer guidance on what foods may be the best to eliminate temporarily, then possibly add back in to identify if it is indeed a symptom-producing food. While reactivity does not always equate with symptoms, it’s definitely prioritized a few foods that I want to try eliminating from my diet to see if it improves my eczema. I’ve currently cut out green beans and kelp (given that I actually didn’t eat cheeses or yogurts already), and this week I’m eliminating eggs so let’s see if I notice any difference!
I definitely recommend checking out EverlyWell if you’re interested in learning more about your body. The Food Sensitivity Test has been so enlightening for me and I actually even just ordered the Metabolism Test too just for curiosity’s sake. I’ve heard a lot about these tests and I’ve always wanted to try it! I have my suspicions that dairy will be big for me too as I’m lactose intolerant as well.

I’ve never heard of this, my daughter has recently had another test and has found out she’s allergic to some nuts – this is after finding out she’s allergic to latex and lots of other things. Apparently the sensitivity can get worse when you eat more – very hard for her as I imagine it is for you. Good luck. Jacqui Mummabstylish

Thanks for sharing this. I might suggest it to my mom. I’m pretty sure she has some food intolerances that didn’t show up in her allergy tests.

Oh this sounds like a good test to take. I have realized a few foods I am sensitive to, and it would be great to know what my stomach is sensitive to.

How intriguing that they offer at-home tests such as this now. I’ve been going to an allergist for years because I have so many food and nature allergies, but to be able to do these kinds of tests at home is something else! So fascinating!
