The days are getting shorter now and while part of me wishes it were still some light out by the time I left work, another part of me is also excited knowing that the holiday season is around the corner! With the kiddos, we’ve been taking advantage of weekends and making the most of our time outdoors while also bringing out some of our favorite old toys to play with inside.
Dylan has a remote-controlled Captain America car that is his absolute favorite! We’ve only had it for a few months but he is literally obsessed with it. While it took a little time for Dylan to initially understand how the controllers work, he has kept at it for hours.
As for our little Mei, she has always been more of the homebody type and loves playing in the house. For her, we try to rotate out her toys every few weeks as we’ve found that she’ll kinda “rediscover” a toy if she doesn’t see it every day and it keeps us from having too many toys laying around too! One of her recently rediscovered favorites is this singalong activity panel that came with one of her walker toys from almost a year ago. The barnyard songs never seem to get old and oftentimes I’ll even find both kids sitting around it playing with the different keys and buttons!
Now that the kids are getting older, we’ve been using this opportunity to also explain to them how batteries are behind so many of the toys that they love. Dylan has played with his remote-controlled car for so many hours on end that we’ve actually had to change out the batteries in it twice! I love working with Dylan to show him how things work!
With so many household items that rely on batteries, I also take advantage of this time of year to check on all the home safety and security devices that may need new batteries. Daylight savings time ends this Saturday and every time we need to change our clocks, I use it also as a time to check change the batteries in the most critical safety devices like smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. It’s only too easy to forget about these so tieing it in with the daylight savings changes is a great way to make sure that we keep our home and family safe!
For 29 years, the Energizer® brand has partnered with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) to help keep families safe through the Change Your Clock Change Your Batteries™ program. Every fall, Energizer® and the IAFC work to remind people of the simple, life-saving habit of changing and testing the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, along with all of your home safety devices, when setting the clocks back for daylight saving time.
Make sure to keep you home energized with Energizer batteries and check your home’s safety devices to make sure they’re ready to go!
