I’ve been curling my hair quite a bit lately (almost daily since before my Keratin treatment this weekend after which I have to let my hair be straight for 48 hours) and wanted to share an easy side bun updo that I did this weekend using a new curling tool, the Conair Curl Secret.
The Conair Curl Secret is a new curling tool that has just come out that curls your hair by automatically feeding it into a heating chamber where it is then uniformly heated from all directions for that perfect curl. The device comes with 2 different heat settings (low, high) and 3 different time settings (8 sec, 10 sec, 12 sec): use low heat / shorter times for looser curls and high heat / longer times for tighter curls. I experimented a bit and to get my desired loose curls, I set it to high heat and 10 second curling time.
For me, I was initially a bit wary of using this tool as I’m a total klutz when it comes to hair styling. But, the curl secret actually makes curling hair super easy! I simply sectioned out 1/2″ sections of hair, placed the tool around the section, and my hair was automatically drawn into the chamber. After a series of single beeps that let you know curling is in progress, the machine then emits 3 quick beeps when it’s done. I opened the chamber and out came perfect voluminous curls!
I created an easy side-swept bun updo with my curls. Check out the video for a product demo and tutorial!
And for those of you who like something printable, I took some video screen captures and put together a little step-by-step picture tutorial as well. 🙂
I found that curling my hair with the Curl Secret really made my curls last all day! The chamber is made of Tourmaline ceramic so the resulting hair is free of frizz and flyaways. Also, since the hair is heated from all directions, the style really sets! The heating element in this tool is completely enclosed, so no need to worry about burning yourself (I had my fair share of accidents…). I bought my Conair Curl Secret at Walmart where I found it for only $99 (currently sold out online but click ‘Check Store Availability’) — it’s a great deal compared to the $150 this item is listed for elsewhere.

Interesting. I've seen this for sale but haven't had the nerve to buy one yet. There is something about having it pull my hair in that scares me to death. What if it pulls too hard? Or gets stuck? I remember as a kid I accidentally got my hair stuck in a brush. Not a fun experience.

There were a couple times when I didn't feed my hair in properly or I tried to feed in too much hair. In these cases, the device just didn't beep and I was able to pull my hair out. I was a bit worried at first that my hair might get stuck or tangled, but the machine is actually brushless so it's not as bad. And if you have really long hair, Conair actually suggests just curling about halfway down your hair so it doesn't feed in quite so much at a time. I bought my curler at Walmart and I'm pretty sure they'll let you return it if you do find that you have problems with it. I hope this helps! 🙂

Thank You!

I've never seen this product before, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think I'd be a bit weary to stray from my traditional curling iron, but I'll have to keep a look out.

It's just another option for those of us who don't have very good luck with curling irons. You don't have to worry about burning yourself with this tool so it might be a nice gift for a teenage girl? Just a thought. 🙂

That's a good point. Believe me, I burn myself with a curling iron more than I'd like to admit 😛
