Fall is the perfect time to get your layering game going strong and this year, it’s been all about the coatigan. Part coat, part cardigan, this piece will have you looking put together whether you’re going to the office or just heading out for that Target run! While the term coatigan may sound a bit trendy, this is one piece that will for sure be a classic.
While a cardigan can sometimes border on loungewear and a blazer can sometimes be a bit too overdressed, a coatigan is the perfect hybrid! It’s been my go-to for those days when it’s not quite cold enough for a thick jacket but you do want just an extra layer to keep warm! Plus, adding that third piece to your outfit (whether it’s a scarf, a statement necklace, or a coatigan!) is always the key when it comes to looking like you spent time getting dressed.

This coatigan option from J.Crew has been my favorite and I love that sizing goes down to XXX-Small to make it more petite friendly (I would also recommend sizing down to have it look more fitted). I actually purchased it in 3 colors – heather khaki, navy, and subtle pink! The fabric is a super soft knitted material, the sleeves hit right at my wrist uncuffed (I have it cuffed in some photos), and the length hits right at mid-thigh with roomy pockets on either side! This is my favorite item in my closet this fall – I also styled it three ways on my blog! 🙂
One thing I don’t like about coatigans is that they don’t zip/button. If it gets cold, you’re stuck with your jacket flapping open. To me, that’s just not practical. I love all the tops you have under that coatigan though. The black lace, the blue scarf, the floral – all so pretty! Makes me miss warm weather when I don’t need to top them.

ahhh i love the idea of the coatigan – it’s like a coat but also a cardigan for chilly days that aren’t overly cold haha. that’s what i need in the morning when i walk the dogs! it gets too hot to wear a coat in the day time though lol you look great babe!
