I wore this outfit on the last day of the rewardStyle conference (my recap in case you missed it!) and it was perfect for a day of brand meetings and networking with brand representatives. Funny fact, the first thing I thought about after I registered for the conference was what was I going to wear?! I was putting all this pressure on myself thinking I’d have to get whole new outfits just so I could fit in with the fashion blogger scene. But after I had some time to calm my nerves, I realized that the most important thing was just to wear outfits staying true to yourself, so that stay true to my style. And for me, that means chic feminine style with some whimsy and color!
I remember back in the days of high school, there was so much pressure to fit in. Wearing certain clothes, driving certain cars, and even going to certain “cool” hang out spots… Thankfully college was a whole different story and it was then that I really grew to appreciate individuality. There’s a certain energy in the authenticity that comes when staying true to yourself. As a fashion blogger now, I see some of that same kind of pressure to blend in as it can be easy to lose yourself in trying to copy what all the other latest bloggers are doing. And while I love following along with trends, I’ve always put my own take on it and styled it in a way that stays true to myself.
Fashion is always changing but style is something you define for yourself. I love having my outfits be an expression of who I am. And when I dress in a way that makes me feel good, it shows. I’m more confident, I stand up straighter, and I radiate a positive energy that others can sense. So while I love being inspired by other fashion bloggers, I value the creativity and individuality that comes when embracing your own style!
With all that being said, I love this outfit! I’m all about the ruffles right now and this outfit has a double dose of them. The ruffled neckline is the statement feature of this look and it adds the whimsy that I love to balance out the classic blue and white stripe print. The asymmetrical one-shoulder style is also great if you have broader shoulders like me while the diagonal stripes create a slimming visual illusion. I paired it with a white pencil skirt and just love the run of ruffles down the front here as well. Pencil skirts are my go-to whenever I want to create a sleek and polished outfit and this one will for sure be on repeat all summer! The fit is true to size and I love that the poplin fabric is lightweight while not being see through (although I would recommend pairing with nude undies just in case!). And if you’re not into white, this skirt also comes in a great chambray color that would pair perfectly with this outfit (and honestly just about any outfit given that chambray is so easy to mix / match!).

Such a great message here! Since starting a fashion blog myself, I totally feel the pressure that I felt back in high school. I so agree the importance of staying true to yourself. I started following your blog because I actually like the way you edit photos as it stands out on it’s own and you don’t succumb to the latest trends in photo editing. Maybe one day we will meet in person!
Thank you April! That means a lot coming from a professional photographer! I hope we can meet in person sometime too!
xx,
Kileen
Yes, there is always so much stress over what to wear to any blogger event! Love the look you chose and I really appreciate that you take your own photos. I still do from time to time, but have become more dependent on (occasionally begrudging) family members.

thanks Lydia! I have my husband help with some of my photoshoots where the kids are involved and I always feel a bit guilty too! I am hoping to do a post where I share a video of how I do my tripod photoshoots since I’ve had so many people ask over the years but never felt like I knew how best to explain it!

Very beautiful outfit and couldn’t agree more with staying true to oneself. A little reminder for myself because lots of time, I feel i have to wear certain clothes to fit in “the blogging world” : WRONG. Thank you gorgeous!

thank you so much Elise!
Hi Kileen – I’ve been following your blog for a few months now. I love your outfit ideas! But I wanted to make contact with you because I notice you buy a lot of your clothes from Shein. I recently placed an order with them because I really liked so many of the clothes you buy from the company so I wanted to give it a try myself. Sadly, I ordered over $100 worth of clothes and they never arrived. The company takes no responsibility and now I have to pay 30% for the items I never received! I was so upset! Now I am just hoping I will get reimbursed for the other 70%. Have you ever experienced any problems with them? I just wanted to reach out to you and maybe let others know too that they may have problems ordering from this company. I looked online and found a website Sitejabber.com and it seems that I’m not the only one who has had a terrible customer service experience with Shein. I just wanted to pass this information onto you just as a heads up. Thank you and please keep blogging:-)
Paulie!! Oh my gosh I’m so sorry to hear about this! I’ve never had any issues and have ordered several items with my own money just to ensure a positive experience (I never want to recommend anything that I don’t personally have a good experience with). Can you let me know your order number and I can ask my Shein contact to see if she can track it down?
I’m so sorry about your experience but I will do everything I can to help you!
xo,
kileen
What a great reminder to stay true to yourself and wear what makes you feel confident rather than wearing what you think you should to fit in. I’m obsessed with your ruffle top! You look stunning!
