Now that the temps have finally gotten out of the 100s here in Texas, I wanted to pair this top with one of my favorite tweed skirts that I had picked up earlier this year. I was a little stumped at first on how to put the two together… why? well, here are some of the standard options that I attempted with this combo:
Option 1: Tuck the shirt into the skirt. The skirt sits high on my waist so tucking the shirt into the skirt made the proportions look all off, not to mention hiding the majority of the colorblocking pattern on the skirt.
Option 2: Drape the shirt over the skirt {and maybe add a waist belt}. Letting the shirt drape naturally over the skirt was definitely not gonna work. The shirt is somewhat baggy and it hung like a giant potato sack when just let look over the skirt on its own. I experimented with adding a waist belt, but the colorblocking stripes on the shirt made it look wayyy too busy with the addition of a belt.
And so…I had to get creative again. Since tying knots in the front of shirts has become quite popular lately, I decided to pull together the excess fabric and tie it together at the front. There wasn’t quite enough fabric for an actual knot, so I just made us of a little plastic-y hair tie and twisted it together to kinda look like a knot. I love it when I get crafty. 🙂

I'm glad the tuck-in giraffe, that peacock color on the bottom is my fave. The booties give this look a fantastic fall vibe, aren't you ecstatic TX is cooling down?
The top's colors really suit you. The knot is cute & a creative way to work around the shirt's baggy fit. 🙂

You look great! Love the bold stripes and the knot was definitely the way to go to pair these two pieces together. Those shoes are gorgeous as well!
very clever! I love what you did with it and the outfit looks great!
I love these colors and the proportions on you, Kileen! You look lovely in jeweltones and browns. Are you doing any FNO events in Dallas?
I'm hoping to go to Northpark on Thurs for FNO, but we'll see how my work schedule plays out… You?
Kileen
I was thinking about heading out to the mall, too, but it depends on how I feel after school! Have you gotten anything new from H&M?
That is such a 'knotty' look with a cheery twist. The colours are so cleverly matched!
i'm in love with your top! how is it $7? lol i just went on the website and its $49 for me. 🙁 btw, i need to see your shoe collection. you always have the most amazing shoes girl! xx
What a cute idea! You are the queen at giving things your own unique spin – I use your double knot belting idea all the time 🙂

Lol, I totally thought it was a throwback to the 90s too!

Yay!! So happy to hear that!! 🙂
Kileen
i love your shirt and the knot
The blouse is beautiful and i love the way you styled it!
Really nice way of adding shape to slightly baggier silhouettes……..will definitely try it out soon! 🙂
You're so creative. The color block tee is so fun. I really like it. It is actually cool down quite a bit where I live (in the 50s – 60s through out the day). Great outfit, Kileen!
I LOVE the top and skirt! Love that you tied it to make it work! I'll have to remember that tip!
Yes to the knotted shirt look, especially off-center like that.
I can't believe how big the MAC looks on you, Kileen! I swear on other people it looks so much smaller, which is one reason I've hesitated.
i agree that most clutches look so much bigger on me than i've seen on others. my main gripe about this purse is that the chain is actually wayy too long — i have the strap knotted here to shorten it a bit, but i'm considering getting it professionally shortened…
You are really making the side-knot work! It looks great. Actually, I love the entire outfit, very unique. And I'm a sucker for colorblocking!
Pretty Striped top! I used to tie knots in maxi skirts during summer when the day got too hot and turned the maxi into a cute mini instead 🙂
Also, personally I think that the side knot looks better than a middle one – The whole asymmetrical thing, you know.

oh, that shirt is to die for! such amazing colors.
So cute! I can wear jeans to work, so most days I do just that, but you inspire me to at least find cute tops to go with my jeans!
yay!! so glad to hear it! 🙂
I love this top….I've had my eye on it as well!
Beautiful colors on that top, works great with the skirt.

I am liking this side knot! Super cute and almost throw back 80's look 🙂
Fantastic idea- that shirt is so cute knotted up! I love the whole look.
Love it!
Kileen, those last three pictures are absolutely gorgeous. You look like such a babe! Are they taken in a different place?
I am going to try to recreate this look somehow with some things in my closet. I never thought of using a tie to help the knot along–I've tried to knot things before but can't pull the knot together, like you said. It worked out really well for you so I might give it a try!
I LOVE your shirt! The colors look fabulous on you, and I love that you paired it with a neutral skirt that also has some texture. Love your cuff too. Gorgeous! Simply beautiful.

all the pictures were taken at the same place, just on different parts of the building, lol.
and i'd love to see a pic of your knotted shirt too if you try it out!
I love the colors and textures of your outfit…it totally works. The knot makes the outfit look so fun and sassy! =)
LOVE this outfit, Kileen! The combination is perfect and the knotted shirt just polishes off the look with a dash of "chic-ness" – so cute and inspirational! want to go give it a try myself now 🙂
