IVL scallop workout set (S on top, 2 on bottom – TTS)
I spent a good portion of the last few weeks cleaning, purging, and organizing my house. I usually save my yearly cleaning spree until the spring, but the clutter was getting out of control and my mental sanity probably needed the clean out more than anything! Since we’ve been spending so much more time at home this last year, I really wanted to make sure that my home space was one that gave me energy and inspired me. Which is why I turned to my favorite Amazon organization essentials to help me with this.
The first space on my list to tackle was the bedroom closet. I needed an organizational system that was efficient and sustainable. Thank goodness for Amazon when it came to having all organizational essentials and I’m excited to share some of my favorite closet organization favorites!
Amazon Organization Essentials
Drawer Dividers
my workout leggings drawer organized with drawer dividers
I never realized the benefit of drawer dividers until I had them. For the longest time, I always just folded my clothes and had them placed in neat rows in the drawers. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that after a few months, my drawers would also turn into a giant crumpled mess of clothes again and I’d be back at square one.
With these dividers, it’s an enforced structure that keeps my clothing separated. I have it set up so that if I’m tempted to not fold my clothes, my drawers actually don’t close (I opt for the 4″ tall dividers for this reason)! This way, I can take the extra 5 seconds to fold my clothes before placing them in the drawer and as a result, my drawers can stay organized without much additional effort!
Jean S-Hooks
S-hooks for hanging denim jeans
I have a denim obsession. Given how many jeans I own, you might find it surprising that jeans are actually the hardest thing for me to find that fit. Given I’m only 5′ tall, I need jeans that have a 24-25″ inseam. For awhile, I shopped in the girls’ department and wore a size 12-14, but after 2 kids, those jeans just don’t fit my hips anymore. I’m always on the hunt for a pair of petite-friendly jeans so you can see the results of my efforts above after 30+ years!
I previously had my jeans folded and stacked, much like what you might find in a store displayed on one of their shelves. However, what I’ve found is that I usually end up only wearing the top 1-2 pairs of jeans from the stack, ever! And so, I recently switched out how I organize my jeans and now have them hanging on S-hooks where I can see the fit and wash of every single pair. I have them separated by brand, style, and wash — in that order — and it’s a system that makes sure I’m giving all my different jeans a good run!
Clutch / Wallet Organizer
similar acrylic slot clutch organizer (similar hanging option)
I have a small number of clutches that I like to have for dressy events, but my constant problem was that they would always end up flopping over on themselves and look really messy in my closet. I love this acrylic slot organizer for my purses and actually have a similar shelf divider for my kids’ closet to organize their backpacks!
Belt Binder Ring Hanger
3″ binder ring for belts (similar, hanger option)
I learned this belt ring trick from my friend Jean (here) several years ago, and it’s been a gamechanger! I always had the messiest pile-up of belts and didn’t like any of the existing belt hanger solutions — it would either take up too much space in my closet, look lopsided, or just get tangled up in my clothes. Since then, I’ve just started using a jumbo 3″ binder ring to organize my belts and have never looked back. I love that I can basically spin my belts around on this ring to find the one I need, then just open the clasp and get my belt out without having to take out any other belts or make a mess! I have mine hanging from the L-bracket wall mount just cause it came with the house. 😆
Pro Tips
Don’t Hold Back When Purging
I used to hold emotional ties to all my things but over the years, I’ve realized that it’s resulted in me holding on to things that just take up space and are never used. The clutter ends up creating mental clutter and a sense of anxiety that to me, is not worth it. These last few times that I’ve decluttered, I’ve been pretty aggressive in the amount of stuff that I’ve decided to donate and/or aren’t even worth donating that it’s just trash. I actually discovered Junk Queen TX, a dumpster rental service in Collin County, that provides super personalized service for those times you have extra bulk trash — they come direct to your house and only charge for the exact time that you need!
Marie Kondo (KonMari Method) Folding
I read Marie Kondo’s Book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up several years and besides the main point of parting with items that no longer “sparked joy”, another one of my big takeaways was actually learning how to fold! I had always stacked my clothes vertically but after reading her book, I realized that the more efficient way to fold was to do a tri-fold and stack horizontally! You can see in my drawer image above that it really is so much easier to pull out items and not mess up the rest of the stack when they’re folded this way — plus I can see everything in the stack so much better!
