Remember how one of my New Year’s resolutions was to stick to monthly $300 shopping budget? Well, I just spent almost half of that budget on 1 thing: J. Crew Double Serge Pencil Skirt in nightfall blue. (Note: I actually also bought the skirt in Bright Dahlia but it’s backordered until Jan 31, so I’m counting it towards next month’s budget. 🙂 Needless to say, I am in love with this skirt. I’ve noticed this skirt on just about every fashion blogger out there but didn’t buy it for a few reasons: (1) I hadn’t embraced colorful clothing yet (2) it’s from J. Crew, which has never known to fit me (3) the asking price is $118!
Reasons (1) and (2) were banished as the months went by (thanks to the Color Brigade and to my J. Crew placket cardi) and I slowly started lusting after this skirt every time I saw another fashion blogger wear it. I had been checking the J. Crew website daily since the end of November to see if it would ever go on sale. To my dismay, it never went on sale and I was starting to get worried that the 00P would start to sell out. So I ended up forking over the money for these skirts at full price last week. I am actually really glad that I did so cause this skirt is definitely going to be one of the staples in my closet now!
Surprisingly enough, this skirt fit perfectly with no alterations necessary! Here are some close-ups of the skirt in size 00P (for reference, I am 5’0″ and 98 lbs. waist = 23.5″, hips = 33″. also apologies for the messy look — I just got out of yoga):
|Perfect fit around the waist, hips, and length. A first for J. Crew!|
|Slight waist gap, but only if you pull on it.|
|How it sits naturally:
a little lower than the natural waistline,
but not noticeably so!
And just for comparison’s sake, since I know many of the petites out there also purchased the H&M lace pencil skirt, here is the J. Crew skirt layered under the H&M pencil skirt in size 2:
|The J.Crew skirt is barely any bigger and
it seems to be just around the hips!
The skirt is fully lined in 100% polyester and the outer shell material is 100% wool. Dry clean only, as expected.
I’m hoping that my skirt in Bright Dahlia will also work out, although it does seem like there might be some inconsistencies with J. Crew sizing. You can also check out this skirt on Jean, Callandra, and Cher.
