I’m planning on writing up a whole post with my nursery essentials, but one product that I really wanted to highlight was our Motorola baby monitor. While most of the baby products we bought for Dylan have been outgrown and retired after a few months, the baby monitor is actually one that we’ve used from the very beginning during his newborn days through today when he’s a busy little 2-year old toddler!
Dylan is still sleeping in his original crib setup as he thankfully hasn’t made any attempts to climb out and we’re hoping to hold off on the transition to a toddler bed for as long as we can (we have a second crib ready for baby #2). We have our monitor propped up on an extra photography umbrella stand but it’s also super easy to mount onto the wall too as it has a hold for a nail or thumbtack just like a picture frame. The pairing of the camera to the display automatic and I love that setup didn’t take more than a couple minutes at most! I can remotely pan, tilt, and even zoom in on the camera which makes it even easier to see what’s happening without having to go into Dylan’s room to check.
love the nice, big 3.5″ display! |

We live in a 4-story condo so having a way for me to keep tabs on Dylan while he’s sleeping while I do work on a separate floor has been crucial. I’ve been amazed at the range of the monitor as I have walked all around our condo and even out into the garage and front yard without losing signal. It truly allows for flexibility and peace-of-mind while my little one is napping!
The infrared night vision is also incredibly clear and I can see details that I wouldn’t have been able to see otherwise without shining a light onto the crib. I love being able to relax at night after a long day and not have to worry about whether Dylan is sleeping ok!
The baby monitor has really grown with us through all of Dylan’s different stages. From his newborn stage when I was a worried first-time parent wanting to make sure he was sleeping ok, to a 6-month old who we sleep-trained and I needed a baby monitor to check to make sure he was ok even though he was crying, to now a toddler who I will need to occasionally remind to go back to bed (via the 2-way communication — so useful!).
I’m also excited to know that this monitor has the ability to display two baby units at the same time with picture-in-picture technology — it’ll be so useful when I have baby #2!

Cool – I've been on the hunt for baby monitors and one of the things I wondered about was longevity. It's good to know you're still happy with this set, two years later!

Looks handy! For now, we're just doing audio, but we'll see how that goes.

Great post! I've been searching for a baby monitor and I think the hubby decided to get a Foscam. I can't wait till you post about other baby and nursery essential items.

I've heard good things about Foscam too as I have coworkers who used them! They're so great cause you can view it online or on any mobile device. I just didn't want to worry about hacking but I'm sure there's lots of security built in!
Candice says
Yes, I think there was an article not too long ago about Foscam's being hacked into. One of my friend's has a Foscam and they did something to it to prevent hackers from hacking in. I'm going to have to ask them about it as I'm worried about that too. Kinda creepy..

Hi Kileen, it was a great idea to propped the monitor to the pod. Do you mind to share more information as in how you do it and what is the brand?

I just bought the umbrella stand for the this monitor! Can you let me know how you mount it to the stand?! I would really appreciate it!
kileen says
I just wrapped the cord to the camera around the stand and then used a piece of thick heavy-duty double-sided tape to stick the camera on top. I set the stand far enough away from the crib that my son couldn’t reach it and it worked pretty well for us! hope that helps. 🙂
