A major cold front came in and winter weather is upon us! Every year around this time I get the itch to stock up on winter coats, boots, scarves, and just about every other cold-weather accessory item even though we only have about 2 months out of the year where it’s really needed. In my defense, I have actually cleared out quite a bit of ill-fitting older items (jackets that didn’t fit, boots that didn’t fit my calves well, etc) to make room for version 2.0 of those items. Having entered my 30s now, I feel like I need to upgrade my closet to reflect my slightly nicer taste and invest in some more worthwhile pieces.
That being said, here’s a mini review of a coat from SheInside that I recently received. I’ve seen SheInside itemsm on other bloggers quite a bit but was always wary of their quality and workmanship. They do have some cute styles though so I thought I’d take a chance and report back my thoughts for anyone considering the same. I saw this beautiful orange coat on their website and fell in love with the vibrant orange — it’s just what I need to pick me up on a dreary cold day! I’m not usually one to wear popped collars but this coat actually pulls off the look perfectly without looking pretentious or haughty. The fabric arrived quite wrinkled but smoothed out nicely after some ironing. The fabric is not super thick but is fully lined and warm enough for a chilly 30-degree morning. I was most afraid of fit and ended up getting a size S after reading (and converting to inches) their size chart. The coat still ended up requiring alteration in the sleeves and in the length (about 1″ taken up). It’s amazing how much of a difference a bit of tailoring can make. The original coat felt awkward on my frame and I look visibly uncomfortable. Post alterations I actually felt like I was wearing the coat instead of the coat wearing me!

I've read that these coats fit sub 5'4"'s better than the average coat. Thanks for the review! BTW, it's ridiculous that you can't find tall boots to fit your calves– boot too big? Too small? I have, what appear to be, massive calves, so I'm on that end of the spectrium. Nearly impossible! (Except for a particular wedge boot from Vince Camuto, which I've been wearing mercilessly for 2+ seasons.)
that's perfect! you should definitely iron the jacket first thing. i tried it on right after opening it and the wrinkles definitely detracted significantly from the look and i was a bit disappointed at first. i hope it works out for you!
boots are particularly problematic for me. I don't have tiny calves but they are smaller than average yet still pretty muscular. when boots do fit me in the calves, then the ankles are too slouchy! my calves are also kinda short so boots also have the problem of coming over my knee halfway and looking very awkward! my boot search continues… i'm glad to hear you found boots that fit for you!
