Now that we’re all at home so much more now, I wanted to give our backyard patio a little update! I last decorated it about 2 years ago and even though I only recently shared it on the blog, I was already itching to do something a little more with it. Now that the kids are older, I wanted to add a few more decor pieces and really make the space feel like a Mid Century Modern backyard oasis!
Our Mid Century Modern Backyard
I spent the majority of the weekends for the last month on updating this little space and honestly have to say that it was so much fun! It was like having my own Joanna Gaines moment and seeing the space transform. You may notice that our sectional is kinda falling apart in certain areas as it’s over 10 years old and in desperate need of an upgrade. Covid has made all home furnishings a hot commodity right now but fingers crossed our current furniture will hold up for a few more months for now!
This egg chair was a purchase I was able to get my hands on and omg, I’m low-key obsessed with it! It adds a touch of boho to our mid-century modern setup and it’s become the entire family’s favorite place to just lounge! The exact one is from Target but I’ve linked several similar below:

I didn’t realize how much a rug would change up this space but it’s a game changer. I originally had a neutral beige rug cause I figured I’d go with something simple but it honestly just made the whole vibe kinda blah. Adding in a bold stripe really brings in all the different furniture pieces and even brightens up the whole patio!
SHOP OUTDOOR RUGS
I honestly love throw pillows and find that they’re the easiest way to really make a seating area look set up. I wanted to add some bright punches of color and chose a combination of printed / solid options — it all came together so well and made the seating area so much more inviting!
I had the hardest time figuring out how to decorate this blank wall space! I loved the idea of wall planters and ended up hacking together a solution where we suspended them using fishing line hung from above. I found all the supplies for these modern terrariums off Amazon and was surprised at how easy it all came together!

And finally, on the other side of our patio, we wanted to have a little outdoor dining table setup! We’ve been doing lots of backyard grilling this summer and every time I’ve thought to myself that it would be awesome if we could have a table to eat at outside. I finally snagged this table + bench when I saw it on sale and even though it’s a huge splurge, it’s so gorgeous. I love the modern teak wood style and the benches work perfectly for a more casual setting, especially with my little kids! This almost identical option did also pop online if you’re looking for something similar!
We had ourselves a mini get together with a couple friends recently and it was so nice to sit outdoors, socially distance, and just have a sense of normalcy again. Hope you all enjoyed this backyard update reveal!
