There’s nothing I love more than a fresh mani/pedi but with a little one now, getting out to a nail salon on my own involves a bit of scheduling coordination and forethought. Most of the time I just end up doing a diy pedicure at home — it’s quick, easy, and just as good as salon quality thanks to a few tools I’ve discovered along the way!
Let’s cut straight to the chase. Personally, I think there are 2 distinguishing factors that differentiate salon pedicures from at-home pedicures: trimmed cuticles and callous-free skin. I have discovered 2 tools that work incredibly well for addressing those issues specifically!
* Revlon Cuticle Trimmer: My cuticles grow like weeds! I’ve never had very good luck using the traditional cuticle nippers that look like scissors as I always end up cutting too much and have even worse raggedy-looking cuticles when I’m done. I picked up this cuticle trimmer in a Revlon nail kit several years ago and was surprised at how easy it makes trimming my cuticles! I just slide the tip of the trimmer gently along my cuticles and it cuts down only the excess cuticle without any worry of getting too close!
* Emjoi Micro-Pedi Nano: This little tool is another essential in my home pedicure essentials! I have pretty bad callouses on my feet and hate having to file them or use pumice stone — it’s just down right unpleasant and awkward! In the past I’ve usually skipped this step but it makes a real difference in the resulting pedicure. I’ve since started using this Micro-Pedi Nano tool from Emjoi and it sloughs off dead skin and callouses like a dream! It’s essentially like a motorized sandpaper roller that rotates at a rate of 30 times/second. And instead of sand, the roller is embedded with micro-mineral particles that pulverizes dead skin instantly! One note of caution: you will actually see the dead skin coming off as a fine powder as the tool works, so be sure to use it over a sink or paper towel! When I first saw the device, I was worried that it might be too abrasive or feel ticklish, but it was nothing of the sort. This roller is gentle and I love seeing my skin literally transform into baby-soft feet before my eyes!
And now for the rest of my diy pedicure toolkit (fairly standard items but these are my faves!):
* Zoya Remove+ Nail Polish Remover: This remover works the best out in removing those tough polishes and actually nourishes the nail as well! I find that it’s not so hard on my nail bed and I love the easy-to-use dispenser!
* Seche Vite Base + Top Coat: The top coat is the best stuff ever. Clear, glossy, and quick to dry. The base coat also helps prolong my nails from chipping and works wonderfully with the top coat!
* The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter: The best all-over moisturizer there is — I buy this stuff in bulk whenever a sale happens! It’s all natural, super moisturizing without being greasy, and the smell is absolutely intoxicating!
* CND Solar Oil: I apply this once my nails and focus only on the cuticles. When the weather gets dry, I also will apply some of it before bed at night.
Wearing OPI Double Decker, my favorite red. 🙂 |

Did you use the Seche Vite Base & Top Coat when you were pregnant? Curious as I heard it causes miscarriage. On a side note, I want one of those emjois now. I have an emjoi epilator.

I didn't paint my nails at all when I was pregnant as I had a high-risk pregnancy and didn't want to take any chances. I didn't even wear any makeup the entire time as I was paranoid, lol.

I wouldn't say paranoid…just on the safe side. ^_^
