This post is an entry for this month’s petite fashion challenge! This month’s challenge is hosted by Elle of Fast Food and Fast Fashion.
Challenge: “Heat Wave Appropriate Work Wear”
…[C]reate an outfit that accounts for the various environmental factors
that plague us in the summer. I want to know how you dress when it’s 90
degrees outside and 65 degrees inside.
Summertime in Texas is pretty much one big heat wave. In July alone, we had 17 consecutive days of >100 degree weather! It’s hard to believe that the hottest month out of the year is actually August, so I have another month of sweltering temperatures. In such weather, you’ll always find me in airy, loose-fitting tops {no sweat stains here!} and skirts as shown above.
To combat the heat though, most offices are set to a chilly 65 degrees. While this can be a nice relief initially when coming in from the heat, it can soon be very chilly! To balance out these temperature extremes, I am always armed with a cardigan {I even have a backup cardigan in my office drawer just in case!}.

P.S. In case you missed it:
- Casual Pleats and Flats – You won’t believe it, but I’m not wearing heels!
- Color Brigade Vol 29 -Make sure you get your friend to “Like” your post to be featured in next week’s Color Brigade!
i agree, the cardigans are a must. the polka dots are so pretty 🙂
Great outfit! I love the color of your J. Crew skirt!! Your polka dot shell is so cute!
Super cute and practical too. I'm loving all the longer length skirst I'm finding in blogland 🙂
Great mix of colours, Kileen. I love that bag and your shoes!
You are absolutely adorable!! I love the mix of the animal print and polka dots. =)
Polka dots and ruffles? What's not to love?? Great look Kileen – I love it!
Love the color combination in this outfit! Is the skirt in mauve? It looks a bit darker than J.Crew's site, but I really like it. How does it fit/compare to other J.Crew skirts?
I know you're a Dallas girl, but I've heard it was supposed to be as hot as about 110 around Wichita Falls, Texas this coming week. Yikes! Your looks are even hotter in trying to beat the heat. You do so nicely with a lovely sleeveless blouse. But then, a rather fierce pair of sandals to compliment this nice skirt also is a nice touch. Very nice!

So cute ruffle shell! I never get lucky finding a cute ruffle shell like that at F21!
love the polka dots and the mustard cardi – so cuuute!
Great color combo Kileen! Still don't know how you survive the TX heat! It feels like I'm melting last time I was there in the summer. =)
This is great…I'm loving your polka dot top, and the skirt is perfect on you!
Hey Cee! The skirt color is a little darker than what's shown on the website but probably not quite as dark as it's shown in my pictures (I increase the color contrast on my pictures). Fitwise, it fits similar to the double-serge pencil skirt where (on me, at least) it's big in the waist but ok in the hips. It does sit a little bit low on my hips, but it's still above the knee so I don't mind. And I can get away with just belting the waist to keep it from having too much of a gap. HTH!
Love the layering and color combo, Kileen! The skirt looks very nice on you. *jealous* I wish J.crew would shrink their sizes a bit so I can own one of their pencil skirts. 🙁
I so need a leopard belt, add the outfit a cool edgy touch, love the top so girly!

Cardigans save my life..LOL I love all the colors/prints of this outfit! You did great Kileen!
Thank you for the feedback! Now I've got high hopes for the skirt because it should fit me pretty well then.
Loving the color combo plus print mixing! Genius!
Those nine west shoes are AMAZING girl!!!!!
LOVE the color of this skirt on you – it's great with your skin tone and the cardigan plays really well with it 🙂 Looking good as always!
Great colour combo Kileen! and WOW can't believe how many super hot days you guys have had. You always look so comfortable and cool, I would have never guessed!
Normally I'm indoors all day in the a/c, so it's not a problem. But stuck me outside for 10 minutes and I'll end up looking kinda gross, lol.
Kileen
Tons of color I love it!
I looooove this outfit and good to hear that the skirt fits well! I got my 0P and love the color but hate that I'll have to get it taken in a bit. sigh.
Love the color of the skirt and the polka dots on the blouse. The cardi is a nice touch!
