Is it just me or is December an absolutely crazy month for anybody else? From the shopping to the parties to the traveling, it seems like there’s always too many things to do and not enough time! Since I’m the last person who wants to spend more of that precious time cooking in the kitchen, I’m here to share with you a quick, easy, and festive pigs in blanket recipe that everyone will love!
Pigs in a blanket always remind me of my childhood and they’re a wonderful treat, especially on Christmas morning after the excitement of opening presents! This particular pigs in blanket recipe takes the time-tested favorite and kicks it up a notch with the addition of bacon and cheese!
Only 4 simple ingredients are needed (I was able to pick these all up on a trip to Walmart):
- Hillshire Farm® Beef Lit’l Smokies® smoked sausages (these are in the deli meat section of your local Walmart)
- Bacon
- Great Value Crescent Rolls
- Sliced Cheddar Cheese (I used the ultra-thin sliced kind)
- Cookie Sheet + Parchment Paper or Foil
If you’d like to garnish it into a wreath, you’ll also need:
- Rosemary Sprigs (I needed about 2 packages)
- Fresh Cranberries
To prepare your pigs in blanket recipe:
- Preheat your oven to 375 F.
- Cook up your bacon (I used a cast-iron skillet to get it extra crispy) and let it cool before crumbling.
- Cut each cheese slice into quarters.
- Open up the crescent rolls and break apart each triangle piece of dough. I then cut the triangles into halves again on the diagonal.
- Layer a slice of cheese, some crumbled bacon, and a Lit’l Smokies beef sausage onto the dough.
- Roll it up and set it aside
- Once all the rolls have been prepared, place them on top of either parchment paper or foil on a cookie sheet. If creating a wreath, arrange the rolls now in the circular wreath before placing them in the oven.
- Bake for about 13-15 minutes until the dough is golden yellow and the cheese looks melted.
- If garnishing, simply place rosemary sprigs in a circular format in the center of the rolls (you might need to snap the twigs in order to get them to bend properly). Then top with a handful of cranberries on top!
Can you believe that this entire pigs in blanket recipe was done in less than 30 minutes? You can even prepare the pigs in a blanket rolls the night before and just pop them in the oven the next day when you’re ready to eat! The result definitely looks fancy yet no one would ever believe that it’s so affordable (and all from Walmart too!). It’s a great dish to serve for the holidays — whether it’s just for your family at home or with friends at a party!
