Temperatures eeked just into the 60s after several days of freezing weather so I jumped at the chance to style a colorful mini skirt for the day. While this skirt is a bit too short on its own to be work appropriate, the combination with over-the-knee boots results in only a couple inches of leg showing, thus dressing it down to a modest, office-friendly look that’s still fun and lighthearted.
Can you believe this little polka-dot shirt that I have layered under the sweater hasn’t been worn in over 5 years? I pulled it out during my closet cleanout a few weekends ago and it’s since been sitting in a “holding area” — my temporary outbox for clothes in donation / selling limbo. I’m a hoarder by nature and in the past I’ve had regrets about letting go of things and then wanting them back. I’ve since learned that the best way for me to successfully let go of things is to create this temporary outbox where I put clothes that I’m considering getting rid of. The trick to making the “holding area” work is to have visible someplace where I see it daily — mine is actually next to my dresser where I walk past every day. It’s just a casual reminder that makes me aware of these items. I’ve noticed that this is usually enough to get me thinking of these clothes when I’m figuring out what to wear and oftentimes I’ll go back and pick out a piece that I suddenly want to style again. It’s helped me breathe new life into old clothes again and as well as successfully purge clothes that I no longer wear with no regrets. A month in the outbox and then to a better place it goes! This polka dot shirt, on the other hand, looks like it’s going back into my closet.

Ah, love that sweater. I have it in red, but I need more camel clothes in my spring wardrobe. Great outfit. And I'm glad you're keeping the shirt, it's so versatile.
Your hair is stunning.

thanks Halie! it was a rare good hair day. 🙂
A holding area is a great idea for closet purging as I usually have the same dillema. I really love this combo and the polka dots peeking out are the perfect addition! Those boots are killer!
Wow! I totally do the same thing. I move them into another closet and let them sit there until I think I may want to wear them. If I don't, then off they go… It works, how cool to know others do it also.
