I’ll admit it: I’ve always envied those people who have long, lush lashes that just naturally seem to have the perfect curl and flare out just so. I have super wimpy, stick straight, almost non-existent natural lashes and am always on the lookout for mascaras that will give them a little boost. Fiber lashes have been on the market for some time now, but I’ve never had much luck with them until I tried this Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash. Now I feel like I can almost fake having false eyelashes on!

When I first received the mascara, I was surprised to see it packaged in a sleek carrying case similar to that of what use to store sunglasses. The case housed 2 little tubes: a longer Transplanting Gel tub and a shorter tube Natural Fibers tube. The transplanting gel came with a typical mascara-type bristled brush but it really had much more of a gel-like consistency. The gel did apply like a mascara but it also acted as a glue for the fibers to then adhere to. The tube of natural fibers came with a skinny, non-bristled brush that deposited little fibers to the lashes, helping extend them and create volume.
I spent about a week experimenting with different ways to apply the fiber lashes and have finally nailed down my application process.
The unique aspect of the Younique Fiber Lash system is that you apply it on top of your current favorite mascara. It acts as a supplement to boost the effect of your current mascara routine with additional fibers that create even more length and volume on top of your existing result. For me, I always use a mascara primer and so I continued to do so with my trusty Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base. Once that dried, I followed up with one of my favorite mascaras, Benefit They’re Real. I experimented also with my other mascara fave, the CoverGirl Bombshell mascara but found that the fibers latched on better over the Benefit mascara.
Now when applying the fiber lash next, I highly recommend focusing on one eye as the steps need to be performed successively very quickly. To start, apply the Younique Transplanting Gel over the mascara. I notice that even with the gel by itself, I already see lots of extra length added to my lashes. Then, while the gel is still wet, go back with the fibers. Here, I only apply the fibers to the tips of my lashes as they can irritate my eyes if I apply them at the roots of my lashes. Once the fibers are added, then I go back with the Transplanting Gel to seal in the fibers. At times, the fibers can get a little clumpy at the ends, so I finish off with just a quick sweep of my lash comb.
And that’s it! The Younique 3D Fiber Lash mascara is truly something that has changed what I think a good mascara can do. You know you have some long lashes when they’re actually hitting your sunglasses when you wear them! Oh the problems of having long lashes! 😉
