This spring cleaning tips post is sponsored by Bon Ami but all opinions are my honest and my own.
I still remember when we moved into our first home almost 7 years ago. It was a beautiful, newly-built condo that had gorgeous natural light, modern fixtures, and these pristine smooth, museum-like white walls. Adrian and I both love a mid-century modern aesthetic and this place was our #goals in a nutshell. But as the place started getting lived in, one of our biggest struggles was keeping those walls clean and white. We were lamenting about the problem to our neighbors one day and I still remember when they told us about the Magic Eraser. I immediately bought one to try, and yes, I remember the first time I tried it I just paused in awe of how amazing it worked. MIND. BLOWN. It was like a miracle for our walls.
Now, I’m hoping to pay it forward and share with you one of my favorite cleaning tips and products that I feel like is another miracle worker yet one of those household secrets that nobody talks about: Bon Ami. Bon Ami has been around for years (since 1886 actually!), and it’s been a long-time staple that combines effective cleaning like non-other with the use of nontoxic, clean ingredients. Bon Ami means “good friend” in French and being someone who is strongly opposed to products that have chemical additives, I love Bon Ami because they are a brand that is also committed to staying away from chemicals like chlorine bleach, artificial perfumes, and nasty dyes.
And yet, Bon Ami is like magic. If you want a stainless steel appliances that sparkle, a sink that shines like new, or a bathtub that is stain-free, you need to get your hands on Bon Ami. I’m sharing one more trick I use Bon Ami for and that is to remove scratches from dishes. As you look to get some spring cleaning done, this is one easy way to make your dishes look like new again and maybe it’ll even make your food taste just a little bit better (cause it’s all about presentation right? 😉)!
Spring Cleaning Tips – How To Remove Scratches From White Dishes
Scuff marks are inevitable and it’s a result of the scraping of silverware across the surface of your dishes. And while these look like scratches, they’re actually just cuff marks and are easily removed without a lot of effort thanks to Bon Ami!
Step 1: Assemble the tools
For any job, you need the right tools.
- Bon Ami powder cleanser
- spray bottle
- sponge (preferably one with a scrubby side)
- microfiber towel (optional)
You’ll notice that NO GLOVES ARE REQUIRED! 😁 Bon Ami is completely nontoxic with no harsh chemicals so it doesn’t tear up your hands or even dry out your skin like other cleansers can. Bon Ami is even safe enough for kids and pets!
Step 2: Create the cleansing paste
Pour some of the Bon Ami powder cleanser on the dish to be cleaned. I’ve found that about 1 tsp is enough as a little does go a long way (and you can always add more later if needed!). Then spray some water on the powder and mix until it forms a paste.
Step 3: Buff out the scuffs
Take a sponge and buff out the scuffs using the Bon Ami powder paste. Bon Ami uses natural soft abrasives (feldspar and limestone) and you’ll be amazed at how gently it removes gray marks that looked like they were previously etched in!
Step 4: Rinse off and dry
Now just rinse your dishes clean and dry them off with a towel. Dingy scuffed dishes seriously look like new!
Now you can have a pristine kitchen cabinet with dishes that sparkle like new!
I love that Bon Ami is all about clean made simple. All you need to use Bon Ami is a damp sponge or cloth. No harsh chemicals, no strong odors — no gloves required! It’s no wonder that it’s been around for over 130 years as it’s just a household staple that you can’t live without. Now you’re in on our little secret for keeping our place looking like new!
