- Change diapers often. I always have a spare diaper with me wherever I am and make an effort never to go longer than 2.5 hours without changing Kennedy’s diaper. Kennedy doesn’t always fuss when her diaper is dirty, so I usually need to be mindful of how long it’s been since her last diaper change. But, the problem with constantly changing diapers is that I’m also constantly rubbing my baby’s sensitive skin with wipes — that led me to find a better wipe solution (see #2)!
- Use chemical-free wipes. I strive to live as naturally as possible and look to use products that are organic and pure. One of my biggest complaints with our previous wipes was that it was laden with preservatives and other ingredients that I couldn’t pronounce, even though it was labeled as “free and clear”! I stumbled upon WaterWipes and fell in love with the fact that it only contains 2 ingredients — 99.9% pure Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. For an area of skin that I was cleaning so frequently, I am now much happier using a wipe that is truly as pure as cleaning with cotton wool and cooled boiled water, just in a convenient wipe form!
- Let baby’s bottom air out for a few minutes each day. Whenever I have a few spare minutes post-diaper change, I’ll hold off on putting a new diaper on Kennedy and let her do a little tummy time on a towel with a bare bottom. It’s nice to get a bit of fresh air on her and sometimes I’ll also add in a little leg massage too to help her become more aware of the lower half of her body. Fortunately pee accidents with a girl aren’t very dramatic, but be careful if you have a boy!
