- Look for cropped or capri styles. I discovered this tip shortly after skinny jeans became popular as I discovered that cropped or capri styles would usually fit my shorter legs perfectly. My favorite brands for this style include the AG Legging Ankle jeans with their 26″ inseam. The distressing hits perfectly on my knees, the fabric is super soft and stretchy while maintaining its shape, and the back pockets are placed such that it’s super flattering! These are my all-time favorite jeans and if I had to recommend just one pair of jeans to buy, these would be it! Similarly, J. Brand also offers a cropped style skinny jean and if you need jeans with a little more room in the butt, definitely give these a try. The fabric doesn’t stretch out throughout the day and the thicker denim really holds everything in too! For more budget-friendly options, I personally own 3 pairs of the American Eagle ‘Jegging Crop’ and love that they come in both distressed and non-distressed options!
- Brands that run small or offer extended sizing. I’ve also discovered a few denim labels that tend to run small — AG, Paige, and J. Brand are my faves! Topshop is another brand that runs small throughout (I generally have to go up a size whenever ordering from them), and while I personally haven’t tried their denim, these jeans have only a 25″ inseam and look quite promising. Stores like American Eagle and Express also offer jeans with “short” sizing too which is so helpful for us with short legs when sizing down is not an option (as they’ll be too tight to fit!)
* personally own!
- Original-hem alteration. And lastly, for those jeans that you do decide to hem, I prefer saving the original hem as it preserves some of the distressing / fading and doesn’t look so obviously hemmed (just remember not to do alterations until after you’ve washed the jeans a couple times too as they may shrink!). Just tuck in the fabric right above the hem and sew it in place with matching thread. Then you can cut off the excess and from the inside and you’ll have jeans that always hit at the perfect length!

Great tip about not altering until after they have been washed a few times, thanks for sharing!
