The right piece of jewelry can really add the finishing touch to an outfit to make it unique. I was recently given the opportunity to review an item from Uncommon Goods and was immediately drawn to this Copper Rays necklace, not only because of its beautiful metalwork but also because of the artist’s story. The necklace is part of a collection designed by Susan Harbourt, who is an engineer by training (like me!) but who became an artist by accident after serendipitously bending some metalwork into a bracelet while she and her husband were remodeling their house. I love the fact that her jewelry is sourced from recycled materials and made right here in the USA (Illinois, in fact!). My necklace combines elegance with a sense of industrial edge, and I simply love it!
Uncommon Goods is also a retailer whose ideals and philosophies run true to my heart. They feature designs that are handcrafted in harmony with the environment and without harm to animals or people. Half of what they sell are made by hand and one-third of their entire collection incorporates recycled and/or upcycled materials. They also make it their mission to provide a platform for artists and designers; they have hosted panel series that discuss topics such as “Scaling Up Your Creative Business”, “Implementing Green Practices In Your Design”, and “Collaborating, Networking, and the Influence Of Your Social Network” — amazing resources to help individuals grow and develop their business!
Finally, Uncommon Goods is a place you can go to for unique designs that you can feel good about buying. They’re a great place to check out for gifts — check out the under $50 selection here and stocking stuffers here! Never too late to start thinking about Christmas, right? 😉
Uncommon Goods was also generous enough to offer me a $50 gift card to give away to one of my lucky readers (thank you Uncommon Goods!).
