It’s been a lot of “new normals” during these last few months. While some adjustments have been harder than others (hello juggling working while helping my kids do distance learning), other changes have been a much-needed welcome that I hope stay forever! One of my favorites is Walmart’s Online Pickup & Delivery — the service gives me back so much time in my day and of course, helps me save money thanks to Walmart’s Every Day Low Prices! So today I’m going to share every single Walmart grocery pickup faq that you need to know.
You may remember that I shared Walmart’s Express Delivery service where I had my weekly grocery order shipped right to my doorstep. Today, I wanted to share more about the grocery pickup option, as I had to run a few errands and figured I could swing by my local Walmart on my way home. SPOILER ALERT: The process was fast, free, and so incredibly convenient that I was truly shocked at the easy process. I’m sharing 5 things you should know before you try out Walmart grocery pickup!
Walmart Grocery Pickup Faq
1. Same-Day Pickup / Delivery Options At No Extra Charge
More often than not I’m needing groceries last minute (#momlife 🙋♀️), so the fact that Walmart’s Online Pickup & Delivery service offers same day time slots is so important when it comes to making it a service that I’ll actually use. If I realize that I’m missing an ingredient for dinner that night, I can still log onto the Walmart grocery website or use the Walmart mobile app to put in an order. Plus, it’s not just groceries that are available — I can include makeup / skincare, pet supplies, and even household items!
I still pay the same price for items as I would shopping in store on my own — there’s absolutely no markup when using the Walmart Online Pickup & Delivery service! In fact, if an item’s price changes between the time that the order is placed and the day it’s packed, you’ll be charged the lower price! Note that for all orders, there is a $35 minimum and while pickup is free, delivery does include a small fee. Pickup and Delivery available in select markets.
2. Completely Contact Free
The process to pick up an order is super straight-forward and easy. Upon driving up to my Walmart store, there were clearly laid out orange signs directing me where to go for pickup orders. There was a side section of the parking lot reserved for pickup orders, with parking spaces numerically marked. There was a phone number that I could call upon arrival to alert the store, but my Walmart app actually automatically detected that I had arrived and prompted me to check in. All I had to do was indicate my parking spot as well as car color in the app and within minutes, a Walmart associate was out with a cart full of my groceries!
I popped open my trunk and before I knew it, all my groceries were loaded in and I was ready to go! The process was completely contact free — I didn’t need to come out of my car at all!
3. Customize the Allowed Substitutions
When placing an order online or through the Walmart app, the inventory is actually smart enough to recognize local stock that’s at your store. However, between the time that your order is placed and when someone actually pulls the item from the shelves, it’s still possible that something is no longer available. I love that the ordering process actually takes this into consideration and gives you the option to select which items you’re ok substituting with similar items.
I’ve personally found that this substitution policy can even work in my favor — if an item that I choose is no longer available, Walmart Online Pickup & Delivery associates are actually trained to substitute for an equal or better item at no additional cost! In cases where the substitution is for lower priced item, I even save money on the difference.
4. Can Add Items After Order Placed
Ever have those moments when you realize you forgot to add something to your order but it wasn’t enough to justify putting in a separate order? Thankfully Walmart’s Online Pickup & Delivery service lets you add items to your existing order and gives you a clear cut-off time to let you know ahead of time.
5. Groceries Stay Temperature Controlled
My grocery order almost always includes eggs, milk, and yogurts — items that need to stay refrigerated! I wasn’t sure if they’d stay cool by the time that I picked them up but I was pleasantly relieved to see that everything in my order was kept at the the proper temperatures and kept fresh for me regardless of when I picked it up. I had one pickup order where I showed up more than an hour after my scheduled time slot and yes, the items that needed to be chilled were still cold and my produce even still had light condensation on them to stay fresh!
Part of me thought that I’d miss going in store to pick out my fresh produce myself, but honestly, I’ve been so impressed with the quality of everything I’ve received in the 4 times that I’ve since used Walmart Online Pickup & Delivery. I’ve had avocados that were perfectly ripe and even bananas that weren’t spotted or green. Walmart actually trains their Online Pickup & Delivery associates to pick the freshest items and in fact, they even guarantee 100% freshness. If I’m unhappy for any reason, I can just call customer care for a full refund. I did have one instance where I ordered a can of fresh kernel corn but received a can of creamed corn instead, but was able to get a full refund with a super quick phone call!
Walmart Online Pickup & Delivery has been such a lifesaver as it seems like I have more responsibilities on my plate now than ever. Plus, I don’t have to wait in checkout lines or worry about crowds in the store. I’ve been able to get so much time back in my day, which gives me the ability to do more fun things with my family!
