This is my first reader-requested outfit! Someone asked me yesterday on Formspring if I could give them some ideas on how to pair this “winter ochre”-colored cardigan that I bought from Gap recently. I was more than happy to oblige and actually was curious myself how to style this interestingly-colored addition to my closet!
I decided on a more earthy-toned outfit today using this cardigan — a bit of a contrast from the bright outfit of yesterday. I would describe this cardigan as more of a rust color and it definitely leans more towards an orange-y tone than a yellowy one (in case you’re wondering how it compares to my J. Crew cardi). It’s absolutely gorgeous and I think a perfect muted color for the in-between spring and fall seasons.
And because I know one inspirational look isn’t enough, I’ll be wearing this cardigan again tomorrow. Except with a completely different look and feel (and color palette, actually!). And then it’ll be going into the laundry pile. You’ll probably be thinking I’m gross by that point anyways. 🙂

P.S. In case you missed it:

P.P.S. I took these pictures on my own and am actually really happy with how they turned out! Thank goodness for the internet. It’ll teach you everything. 🙂
That's an absolutely stunning colour on you, Kileen. I love earth tones on you!
Love your outfit!! Never thought of pair navy blue and brown but it looks great!
Kileen, I'm loving the outfit and the background and the photo skills. Props to Adrian! Is he reading this, because I think he should be your photographer EVERY DAY 🙂
Pretty pretty colors and gorgeous photos. You always find great spots to take pictures.
Very cute
I really like the color of it, and how your wore it. I got all excited, and thought this was your closet tour.
My Heart Blogged
oh, these pictures are all my own!! (you'll notice the little remote in my
hand, lol). i've actually been researching camera techniques and am putting
them to use! 🙂
$23 is such a steal! Its great to see you rocking pants in these past couple of posts!
I love the outfit & your background looks so lovely!
Gorgeous Kileen! And do I sense another tutorial coming up? I love how you explain things 🙂
This color looks great on you!! I love the ruffled top underneath it really adds to it. You look so pretty!! Great look 🙂
maybe. i'm thinking about going to a camera techniques class actually and
depending on how that goes, i might write something up. right now, my
skills are such a hodge-podge of random things that is kinda hard to
explain… plus, i've also been learning lots on how to better use
Lightroom for photo editing, which I think has made the biggest difference
right now. and Lightroom is kinda expensive, so i'm not sure a tutorial
would even be applicable to most people. we'll see. 🙂
omg what a coincidence! I received an outfit request on my Tumblr as well. haha I love the colour combo of your outfit. The blue pants go really well with the cardigan. Great job!
lol, i wonder if it's the same person? 🙂
Love your outfit as always! Can't wait to see how you restyle that cute cardi tomorrow!
XO, Katie

Love the way you styled the cardigan and your shoes are fab!
impressive photog. skills u have kileen! 😉
excellent job in styling the cardi. the trousers look good on you. i'm looking for a pair of pleated trousers myself…
Ok Kileen your outfits just get better and better! I love this so much. This is probably one of my favorites. Those pants are perfect for your frame! The rust colored cardi is amazing and I adore that cute ruffle top. Well done my friend!! Kiah
Your looks are so beautiful!
Unfortunately here in Brazil there is no Forever 21 and etc.
Love your looks!
aww that's too bad!! i don't know if i could move there then… 🙂
great pictures! I'm still waiting for my remote to come in (and hopefully work) to get more self pictures. I can't get the focus right with the self timer, ugh. Any tips you'd like to share? Did you use a different lens?
Looking forward to seeing the different outfit with the same cardi tmrw!
Lidi @ Eclectic Flair
remote is KEY for getting the focus right. self-timer will almost always
focus on the wrong thing: when you press the timer, it's focusing on
something far away in the background (most likely). then when you get in
front, you're going to be all blurry. a remote will definitely help with
this!
and nope, still using my same camera and lens for these pics: Canon Rebel
XSi and Canon EF 50mm f1.8 lens. i'm saving up for the Canon 5D Mark III
that's supposed to come out later this year. 🙂
This is a different color palette than we normally see on you. Love it, it looks great!! Reminds me of fall/spring.
Love your pants!! You look lovely!! 😀 <3
You look gorgeous in these jeans!!! Love the super cute bench pics too:)
Thanks, Kileen! You are always so helpful and I really appreciate it!
Yeah, I've found no way of fixing the focus problem with the self timer. I
have a Nikon D3100 and I've had a hard time finding a wireless remote for
it. I ordered one that I think will work…I'm crossing my fingers!
I also need to save up for a lens with a lower F stop, your pictures with
the 1.8 look lovely! 😀
how exciting that you'll be taking pics with a dslr!! you'll wanna play
with the f-stop setting. i've found that if i go too low, it's basically
all a blur. too high and it's basically point-and-shoot camera quality
pictures (which isn't bad but not very artistic). good luck! 🙂
I love those pants. All of the colors work so well together! <3

very earthy today
I really like the ruffle shell!
I didn't ask for it…but I should have! You do such a great job of combining colors together. Yay! Looks great!
Super gorgeous Kileen! I Love those pants on you!!
Meet Virginia Design
i have a very similar colored cardigan! i think it looks great paired with the navy! thanks for the inspiration 🙂
Adorable outfit! You look so good, and i just love the color of your cardigan!
Earth tones look lovely on you!! I love the pants you've got as well! Super cute!!
ooh I am excited to see how you style it for tomorrow. Also how did you take these so clearly.?When I do them myself which is all the time I have so many that are blurry.
Write it in Lipstick
when i take pictures myself using the DSLR with a low f-stop, i have a much
higher percentage of blurry pictures. it's just hit or miss. i ended up
taking about 100 pictures yesterday and definitely eliminated about 10% of
them just cause they were blurry. i would say just play with the f-stop.
certain locations work better than others. 🙂
This color pallette works very well with you. It's definitely different from what you usually rock and style, but it's still super chic and absolutely stylish. I can't wait to see what you pair this with tomorrow 🙂
I am a huge fan of rust! I used to only think of it as a fall color, but I've come to realize it's potential for the spring, especially when paired with yellow, light grey, and turquoise!
I didn't ask for it…but I should have! You do such a great job of combining colors together. Yay! Looks great!
This color looks great on you!! I love the ruffled top underneath it really adds to it. You look so pretty!! Great look 🙂
Like Aubrey, I love the earth tones on you too! If you don't mind, I'd like to do a reader request for you too. 🙂 Let me think of a good one.
I love this fit. The colors work perfectly together and being that we hardly ever see you in pants, this is awesome! You're so adorable!!
