Time for some real talk. This weekend I took my first vacation of the year and it was so. much. needed. While it was just a quick three days away in San Francisco (primarily to visit a friend for his wedding and it was absolutely beautiful!), it came after several months of some kinda stressful times. My full-time job had been extra demanding as I was working to help launch our company’s largest client to date, and there had been back-to-back weeks of long hours/weekend work. It had been extra challenging juggling family responsibilities as Adrian was traveling and I’ll be honest, the mom guilt has been real.
That being said, I’ll also be the first to admit that I have a tendency to eat when I’m stressed. When my schedule gets thrown off due to work pressures, sleep deprivation, and lack of time to fit in my workouts, my eating habits also tend to get derailed. Sugar ends up being that quick fix that I end up turning to and needless to say, even after a couple weeks of bad habits, I was feeling all of it.

I was feeling heavy, bloated, and just run down on a day-t0-day basis. I knew that work was going to continue to be busy as schedules were pushed out until the end of September, and while there were those on the project joking about the extra 10 pounds we had all put on as a result of this project, I knew that something needed to change on my end.
My 21 Day Sugar Detox Plan
I ordered myself a large box of Sweet Defeat and set out to cut out all processed sugar from my diet as well as limit even natural sugar sources including fruit to only 1 small piece / handful a day. The plan was to get back to eating all real, whole foods with a focus on fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. I also wanted to get back on a lower carb diet in general and consume only carb options that were unprocessed.

I can totally see the before and after! Way to go girl! Cutting out sugar and drinking lots of water has been my “secret” to losing 40 pounds of baby weight in less than 4 months. I weigh less now than I did before I got pregnant! Still have a lot of toning to do though.

I’m so glad you did this post and you look terrific. It’s helping me get my but back into gear. I’ve been eating too much junk food lately and I totally feel the difference. I’m wondering if I should try a total sugar detox. I’ve done 3 day juice fasts before and I find that often going completely off something is actually easier than trying to “cut back.”

This was pretty interesting for me to read! I’m in a similar slump right now with my eating habits, and I really need to be honest with myself about portion control and late night snacks. I’m not sure I’d have the willpower to cut sugar completely, but cutting back is definitely a good idea. I have an awful sweet tooth!

Sugar is such a tough dragon to slay! We (hubby and I) have done the Whole 30 a few times, and those sugar cravings for the first few days are a bear. But, like you, I know how much better I feel energy and sleep-wise. I know it’s how I need to eat most of the time… With exceptions for the really “worth it” things!
