Vampy lips are the latest trend to hit the scene this fall and winter and while it’s a style that I passed on thinking that it looked too goth for me, I’ve since changed my ways. It’s all about finding the right color and pairing it with the right makeup look to create a result that’s nothing but glamorous and sexy!
I set out on a mission to find my perfect vampy lip color last weekend. I wanted to test out a drugstore brand since I wasn’t quite sure if I’d like the look, so I headed out to Target to scope out their beauty section.
Target recently started a Beauty Concierge service where highly trained beauty enthusiasts are available in-store to answer questions, provide tips, suggestions, product recommendations and helpful how-tos for all things beauty! Since dark, vampy makeup looks are all new to me, I definitely needed the help of Target’s Beauty Concierge!
When I asked about vampy lipsticks, my beauty concierge specialist knew exactly where to go! As we walked, she mentioned how she had just created a look with a dark lip on herself the other day and was a color that would look flattering on everyone. My interest was definitely piqued! She took me to the Revlon display and immediately pulled out the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry along with the ColorStay Moisture Stain in Stockholm Chic.
She then explained how I should start with a light layer of the Stockholm Chic color to stain my lips. After blotting any excess, then layer on the Black Cherry lipstick. Apparently the stain adds depth to the otherwise matte lipstick and gives the lips some darker color even if the lipstick wears off throughout the day. I never would’ve thought to do this but it’s such a great tip!
I am in love with this lipstick combination! The lipstick wears incredibly well and I can definitely say that the color is pretty universally flattering with its brown undertones. I kept the rest of my makeup look simple so as not to overpower the lips and stuck with a light eyeshadow followed by a single swipe of eyeliner.
