TGIF!! It’s been such a week, hasn’t it? I can honestly say that having a way to release some of that pent up anxiety these last few days has been SO much needed. 🙋♀️ Since our weekend trip to San Antonio a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been self quarantining at home and have needed to find ways to stay productive (instead of eating an entire bag of popcorn while watching Schitt’s Creek… 😆). I’ve had the new SoulCycle At-Home bike set up in my house for about a month now and am sharing everything you need to know in case you’re considering this piece of equipment for yourself!
SoulCycle At Home Bike
What Is SoulCycle?
I still remember when SoulCycle first came to Dallas back in 2016 and I took my first class literally days after it opened. I had taken my share of spin classes in the past but can honestly say that SoulCycle offered something so much more. It was truly an experience. From the dim lighting set off with heart-pumping EDM music to the energetic instructor that had me tapping back and pushing out of my seat with every beat, it was a class that was as much of a mental boost as it was a physical one. Even if I wasn’t sure about some of the choreography, the dark room made it so that no one else could tell and I could just focus on the workout. I felt uplifted, energized, and completely obsessed.
Needless to say, when the pandemic hit I had to shift most of my workouts to the home, and SoulCycle classes were one thing that I truly missed. I considered getting a Peleton actually but am so glad that I ended up waiting a few extra months to get my SoulCycle At-Home bike instead. The two bikes really offer completely different experiences when it comes to cycling so be sure to read on for my comparison!
What Makes The SoulCycle At-Home Bike Special?
Commercial grade frame for stability: For starters, the SoulCycle At-Home bike is beautiful. I love the sleek matte black aesthetic and the large 21.5″ touchscreen display really makes you feel like you’re right in the studio. The frame is made of commercial grade steel and designed for maximum stability, a must for the various class moves such as push-ups and tap backs. I also love that the bike is designed for a wide range of heights ranging from 4’10” to 6’10” — even
Custom-designed sound system: Music is a huge motivator for me when it comes to pushing myself during workouts. The SoulCycle At-Home bike comes with a custom-designed sound system and it makes a huge difference when it comes to really feeling like you’re jamming out in the studio!
Class content quality: As someone who works in technology, I definitely can appreciate when there is high quality details in a product. The quality of the SoulCycle classes is incredible. The SoulCycle classes are powered by Variis, and call me impressed! The resolution is super sharp and I’ve never had any lag in sound or video quality. Each class is shot from several different angles with smooth transitions throughout the class — it really immerses me in the SoulCycle environment and makes me feel like I’m in studio! Each class also has riders who are joining the instructor and it adds to the feeling of riding in unison with others in that group class vibe.
The Variis technology is seamlessly integrated into the SoulCycle At-Home bike, but what I didn’t know until I owned the bike is that Variis is actually affiliated with the gym Equinox which I’ve been a member of before. I also have the app downloaded to my phone and have access to all the other workout classes I love including Precision Running, Best Butt Ever, and Pure Yoga.
Access to SoulCycle iconic instructors: This one is HUGE!! There are so many instructors that I’ve heard so much about including Sydney Miller and Victoria Brown who teach in cities outside of Dallas that I’ve been wanting to take. Thanks to the SoulCycle At-Home bike, I can now tune into their classes without having to leave home! The energy from SoulCycle instructors is unbeatable, and their uplifting words have oftentimes been exactly what I needed to hear. There are both pre-recorded and live stream classes available too!

How Does SoulCycle Compare With Peleton?
And of course, addressing the elephant in the room.
- Focus on the energy / vibe instead of leaderboarding: Peleton focuses on a leaderboard and allowing riders to compete against each other in real-time. With SoulCycle, it’s much more about feeling the beat and riding the energy. At the end of each ride, you’ll see a Beat Match Percentage along with a visual indication of at what point during the class you were able to match the beat. I’m naturally very competitive but find that when I workout, I just want to workout for me. The competitive aspect takes away from the enjoyment of a ride for me as mainly I use my workouts to feel good about myself instead of trying to top a leaderboard. But, this aspect boils down to personal preference.
- Price: The cost of the SoulCycle At-Home bike costs $2500, while the Peleton bike costs $2,250. While the cost of a SoulCycle At-Home bike is higher, there is difference is definitely in the commercial grade quality and stabilitly that is instantly noticeable when riding on the bike. The Variis subscription for the classes costs $40/month while the Peleton subscription costs $39. The Variis cost is free if you already have an Equinox membership. As I’m someone who has also had an Equinox membership in the class and loved their classes, the $1 cost difference was a no-brainer for me.
SoulCycle and Peleton have different offering when it comes to a cycling experience. Here’s how I would break down the pros of each:
Choose SoulCycle if:
- you love the energy of an in-person SoulCycle class
- love the music and choreography that SoulCycle class
- don’t care about being competitive and leaderboarding
- love the additional classes found at Equinox gyms
- want to zone out and ride using your own music
Choose Peleton if:
- love competing based on a leaderboard
- want granular data about ride performance
- love scenic rides without an instructor
- additional fitness classes led by Peleton instructors
Both bikes offer a 30-day money-back guarantee as well, so you can always return and get your money back in case it doesn’t work out!

For me, I’ve loved having the magic of a SoulCycle class available at home for me now thanks to the SoulCycle At-Home bike powered by Variis. It’s been a lifesaver to have a way to release my pent-up energy and even get a handle on my anxiety. SoulCycle really nailed it when it comes to bringing the studio experience home and I cannot recommend the SoulCycle At-Home bike enough!

Wow. I really do believe that riding a stationary exercise bike can be an efficient and effective way to burn calories and body fat at home. It is also a great way to strengthening your heart, lungs, and muscles. I need to check these bikes out!

I tried SoulCycle during the summer and I loved it. It was super intense for me having in mind I wasn’t used to this kind of cardio. I’m more of a jogging/zumba kinda girl. Because of the pandemic I had to stop, but this is a great option!

This sounds like a great machine. I tried a Pelaton, and I just didn’t like the feel of it. I love that Soulcycle is a lot more high quality.
Matt Taylor says
Agreed! It sounds like an awesome machine. I haven’t even tried the Pelaton, just old classic spin bikes. This one looks great though.
Deborah says
Interesting! I’m still a good old-fashioned run-outside-and-do-yoga-indoors kind of girl. I took a few SoulCycle classes and they just weren’t for me. I don’t like spin classes in general because I hate the feeling of pedalling a bike and not going anywhere ha! My husband, however, really likes SoulCycle and took an outdoor class with his mom recently!
