Surviving the Dog Days of Summer in this Season’s Hottest Exercise Dress

When it comes to getting dressed on the weekends, I’m all about something easy that I can throw on in a hurry and feel super comfortable in no matter if I’m out running errands, chauffeuring the kids to their extracurriculars, or just going out for dim sum with friends and family.  The exercise dress has been a repeat outfit for me these past few weeks and just like with all athleisure wear, you don’t have to actually be athletic to sport the fashion trend!

I used to be convinced that wearing workout skirts and dresses didn’t make sense if you weren’t out playing golf or tennis, but I’ve since realized that it’s such a sporty chic outfit option that looks both casual and elevated.  Outdoor Voices first came out with their now cult-favorite exercise dress earlier in 2021 and it was sold out for nearly the entire summer!  While it’s bit pricier at $100, it had such rave reviews that it definitely planted the seed in my mind that maybe this was a style I should consider.  Then, when Abercrombie came out with their version of the exercise dress at a more affordable price point, I knew I had to jump on the bandwagon!

The material of this dress is super lightweight and perfect for those hot summer days when the thought of anything sticking to your skin feels uncomfortable.  It feels a bit like “performance” fabric where it can be a bit slick to the touch but I personally love it as it’s breathable and any sweat that collects also dries really quickly.

The exercise dress style has a built-in biker shorts liner and even side pockets!  I am HERE 👏 FOR 👏 IT 👏.  The pockets are a bit snug for my iPhone 12 Pro Max with the case on, but I do like that I can stow my keys and Airpods comfortably when I’m out for a quick errand.  There’s also a built-in shelf bra that’s surprisingly supportive (but keep in mind that there’s no provided padding so I’d recommend pairing with these nippies just in case!).

I went with my usual XS Petite sizing but would warn that this dress can run a bit short.  If you’re wanting a bit more coverage, I’d recommend switching to the Regular sizing if you’re Petite, or the Tall sizing if you’re usually Regular.  The shoulder straps are adjustable and it means you can really customize this dress to fit just how you like!

No judgment, but I actually already purchased this dress in the Light Blue and Black Onyx colors as well and am even considering the Dark Lavender — this is definitely a dress you’ll want in all the colors cause it’s so easy and comfy!  And for those days when it does get cooler, I’m picturing this dress layered under either a cute crop hoodie or sweatshirt.  Anyone else wanna twin with me in this outfit whenever I’m at Dylan’s weekend soccer practices? 😁
