Petite Fashion Challenge #5 is hosted this month by Cynthia of Shorty-Stories! Please be sure to visit her blog to see all the entries by fellow petites.
The Challenge:
Create a sophisticated work appropriate look that has no more than one
dark piece (it can be a skirt, pants, a blazer, sweater etc…)
excluding shoes, accessories and hosiery.
I actually created my weekly Color Brigade feature for this very reason — to add more color to my wardrobe! And even though I already posted a look for today’s Color Brigade feature, here’s an extra outfit that I think fits the bill for a brightened wardrobe. Enjoy!
Gap Outlet Ruffle Blouse – 0
J. Crew Double Serge Pencil Skirt – 00P
Forever 21 Leopard Print Belt – S (cut short)
Forever 21 Tights
Forever 21 Chic Leatherette Stilettos in Tan – 5
Necklace (really old)
Louis Vuitton Ellipse PM Purse (gifted)
I love my colored tights, but I decided to keep it conservative for this challenge entry and wear basic black tights instead. I think we all know how much love this J. Crew placket cardigan has been getting, so of course it had to make an appearance for the challenge. And how could I forget about my other most recent J. Crew investment? The skirt was a no-brainer for me as one of the main reasons I bought it was because of the gorgeous color! The leopard-print belt adds a bit of fun to the outfit without going over the top, and the shoes helped finish out the gold-toned theme of the outfit.
I hope you guys enjoyed this outfit and hopefully it will provide some ideas on how a bright outfit can still indeed be very work appropriate! ^_^

I love both of the ways you styled the teal J. Crew skirt!! This outfit has a lot more color and is more exciting!! Mustard yellow and teal will be another color combo to try!!
Love the color combo and the belt really spices up the outfit while keeping it work appropriate, great outfit!!
Yay for colors!
Just Better Together
what a great idea! i tend to rely on black too often. xoxo jcd http://cornflakedreams.blogspot.com/
You are like a walking J. Crew model, it's a shame they don't PAY you to wear their clothes because you wear it better than some of their catalog models. I love the color combos but especially love the unexpected animal print! 🙂
I totally love that color combination! I'm going to add that to my list of combos to try at some point!
I love the colours you used! Very bright and spring-like. 😀

I think this may be one of my fav outfits on you! You look gorgeous!! Love everything down to the pumps and purse!!!
Very nice color combination, Kileen! Teal and mustard yellow go really well together. I am loving your skirt. Great job!
Oh my word…this is stunning. Seriously. I love the color of that skirt and combined with the mustard yellow cardigan, it just doesn't get any better! I really like how the ruffles in the shirt are mirrored in the ruffles in the cardigan. You look gorgeous!
I had NO DOUBT you would do amazing with this challenge! 🙂 Great colour combo!!!
I'm going to have to bother you to teach me how you do that shopstyle thing below your posts – I couldn't figure it out! (not surprising LOL)
@curls-and-pearls oh yes, i'll write up a tutorial on the ShopStyle thing. it's so easy once you figure it out! 🙂
I bought that same J. Crew cardi, I think I ordered it a size too big so it looks a little messy. Yours looks so much better! I will try mine with a high waisted skirt & see how I do.
Great look!

I won't be the first or last to say this: teal + mustard = awesome on you. Well done!
Hehe…we wore the same cardigan! Love it! Nice pairing of the mustard with the teal…I must try that sometime. =)
I am so in love with that skirt. I'm mentally begging JCrew to put it on sale! You look gorgeous, as always.
Very classy Kileen! Teal and gold…what DOESNT gold go nicely with? I've been wearing cardigans tucked into pencil skirts a lot, and although I was sad that I couldn't find your $1 leopard belt…Vicky surprised me with an Ann Taylor one! It works wonders to add some jazz to a regular work outfit.
thanks for the comment:D the outfit is amazing, i love it, especially the mustard yellow cardigan [which i need to buy] and the teal pencil skirt <3
and yes Chinese New Year is coming up
Thanks for the comment-yes, it is the Cyphert and I had such a time getting this bag! I stalked it online for a week after seeing it on another blog and then it sold out in black online (at the time?). I went to my local store and they had the LAST ONE in all of SW Florida! Apparently this bag was featured on Oprah so it flew off the shelf.
Moving on to your outfit: LOVE it as always! You know I actually grumbled to myself this morning that "Kileen is going to have no problem with this challenge thanks to her damn color brigade series (I totally mean that with love!).
High five on our leopard belts!
Im a full board color lover….so this outfit is so perfect to me…great color mix….truly looks awesome:)
Stop by and say Hello:)

As others have said, the colour combo is absolutely gorgeous. Really like the colour of the skirt, too. This entire challenge has had me thinking: I really need to stop buying blah bottoms (black/grey/brown/tan skirts and pants) and get more coloured ones!
I never get tired of seeing you in this J.Crew skirt. Perfect use of gold and leopard as accent colors too!
that belt just all the more tied everything together too! <3 <3 <3 <3!!!!!!!!
thank you for the color brigade invite, i have to decline for now though :*(. once i get a new cam i'd totally do outfits of the day pictures 🙂

Super duper cute!! I NEVER say "super duper", but I totally meant this naturally!! Lol! These colors work so well together! The belt works so well, and ties in the purse.
Love both ways you wore the skirt! The mustard with the teal is a fabulous combo! And my you have some pretty purses!
GREAT outfit! I am seriously IN LOVE with your jcrew skirt too. The color is amazing and seems to work well with basically anything. I am definitely going to be on the hunt now for a dark teal skirt!

Better Than A Milk Mustache
Those are such pretty colors together, and the belt pulls it all together perfectly.
Lovely combo of teal, white and yellow/gold. You got me interested in F21 shoes. Wonder if they are comfy.
@Nelah i find that for the price, they're comfortable enough. 🙂
Can't have enough of this cardigan. The color is great isn't it. I love your new J.Crew skirt. It fits you so well! I'm so jealous that you have so many colored shoes, that you seem to be able to find a pair that matches your outfit everyday. Yay for animal print!

Kileen your color mix totally rocks!! Great job adding a print in the belt, the perfect completer to this outfit!!
