First, a little aside. I took a DSLR photography class last night and realized I was making a grave mistake in my camera settings: I had my camera set on single-point focus instead of multi-point (more on focus points). Hence the reason that half my pictures would turn out blurry! If you’ve ever had those ah-ha moments when you realized that one simple trick that would fix all your problems, well, welcome to my world. 🙂
And now, for my outfit today, I decided to play with proportions and wear both a cropped top and a cropped bottom. I half debated between switching this cropped cardigan for a full-length one, but I kinda ended up liking the fit of this cropped one more. Plus,it’s got little sequin berries on the side. And you can’t say no to sequin fruit. If only all decisions were so easy… like figuring out wedding seating charts. (Now you know what I’ll be doing the rest of tonight…)

Love your makeup! I need to take a photography class myself! What model camera do you have?

I use a Canon XSi with a 50mm f1.8 lens for all of my blog pictures. 🙂
Ha. I have my camera on multi-point and half my pictures still turn out blurry! But that's probably because I move around too much. 😛 You look great!
Fantastic bright and cheery look Kileen!
Kileen this focal point issue may be the solution to SO many of my problems!! Lol. I can't wait to check out my guide book and figure out how to change the setting.
I love your top, too!
Thank you thank you for sharing that little tip! I have definitely had that problem with mine so I will be making that change!
If I were to think this cropped combination in my head, in theory it wouldn' t work– so I would probably not even try it. But looking at this–you definitely pulled it off. I would've thought wearing cropped items all at the same time would shorten our already petite frames, but for some reason it doesn't look like it.
oh yes, when Adrian takes pictures for me he puts the camera in all sorts of
fancy modes. then i have to go back and undo all his manual settings when
i'm on my tripod taking pictures cause i can't get that fancy when i'm not
actually behind the lens. definitely check the focus settings! 🙂
LOVE the colors in that top – so pretty and so flattering on you!
Blurry? I've never noticed. All your pictures are always perfect! I'm loving all the new locations you're finding!!
Oh I will be just as soon as I figure out how to 🙂 Btw, I wanted to let you know that I have passed on the sunshine award to you. Feel free to check it out. http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/
Haha, don't feel bad about not knowing all the ins and outs of the camera… I've never read my manual, and it took me like a year to figure out how to change the ISO!
I am definitely going check my settings – and I really need to head to a photography class as well!
oh, and i'm trying new makeup from Fresh Faces Minerals (http://www.freshfacesminerals.com). loving the vibrant eyeshadows so far! stay tuned for more about this brand. 🙂
oh i used to skip through all the blurry pictures after i downloaded them.
but after removing the blurry pictures, i wouldn't have much left to work
with…
Haha oh I hate that. I think I take more "bad" pictures than good ones – my eyes are closed, hair is in my face, or my arm is moving, or it's all blurry. And then I end up looking the exact same in all the "good" ones.
Your eye makeup is gorgeous!! And so are these photos! I especially love the first one!
Good luck with the seating chart!!
thank you!! i'm trying out Fresh Faces Minerals eyeshadow (
http://www.freshfacesminerals.com) for the first time. definitely stay
tuned for more on this brand. 😉
I'm really enjoying your photo locations, so jealous that you get such awesome scenery! Love the outfit too…so vibrant and colorful! =)
Love your cute shoes!
The colors in your pictures are GORGEOUS today!!! Something looks different about all the pictures like the colors are more muted and "storybook" like, maybe it's the setting switch? Whatever it is, I love it!
I was just thinking to myself, I wonder if Kileen took these pictures after her photography class because the first picture is amazing!! I'm always in awe when it comes to nice framing b/c for the life of me, I can't figure out placements. I love this outfit, especially against the natural backdrop.
Love the shirt with the bag!!! Did you take your class online? Do tell us where! 🙂

it's really hard to do framing when you're on a tripod with a dslr. for me,
that's when all my pictures turn out blurry. changing the focus mode to
multi-point focus definitely helped in these cases.
I took the class at a local Dallas place called Spot Studio:

the muted colors are actually a result of me experimenting with Photoshop.
i'm still learning the software, but it's pretty incredible what you can do
to change the effect of a photo. i'll post a tutorial once i feel like i
actually know what i'm doing. 🙂
haha! "and you can't say no to sequin fruit". love your outfit, excited to see you saturday! 🙂
yay!! me too. 🙂
Your pictures have already been looking so good lately! How exciting that you're learning even more about photography!

These pictures look really fab! That first shot is so cool!
thanks! i actually really debated putting that picture up cause i think i'm
a little blurry. but the scene is just incredible. and to think it's just
a street about 2 blocks from my house!
You look fabulous, Kileen! Absolutely stunning, in every way. Way to play around with tricky proportions – I wish I could pull off both a cropped top and cropped pants!
And these photos are just BREATHTAKING – so, so lovely.
Hey hey from your newest follower 🙂

So What If I Like Pretty Things
aww thank you!! my bf (adrian) is a pretty good photographer (and photoshop expert!) so i'm slowly learning from him. the photography class definitely helped, but i'm kinda limited when i take my own pictures with the tripod/remote. thanks so much for the compliments though! 🙂
I think this look works really well. It elongates you a bit.
Oh, I bought cropped white pants because of you! I need to post a pic.
oh yes, definitely post a pic!! i would love to see. 🙂
Yea I use my camera multi focus too, and now since I got my dad as my photographer, I dont really need that Multi focus anymore but still use it, I'm thinking of going to photography class too this summer!!! I bet there are a lot of things that they will teach us and benefit for the blog.
Anyway I completely agree with you, I dont know cropped pants and cropped top would be good to each other, I use to scared on using that proportions, especially the effect of cutting my body on half, but you prove me wrong, I might try it sometime soon

Kileen you look so fabulous in epic proportions! I am glad you couldn't sat no to sequins berries. As for the ah-ha moment I quite like those. They make me feel 10 times smarter.

I'm pretty sure I focus on one point and use a low aperture so the background of my photos stay blurry but the focus is sharp.
That jacket is so cute. I love the berry detailing.
My Heart Blogged
lovely! the colors are so pretty and love the cropped trousers on you.
Although I'm a wedding photographer I've never taken a photography class so I'm totally self taught. I would read a lot about photography when I first started out so I know that AHA! feeling of something simple that helped me take better photos.
I love your hair like that!
thanks! it was something different. i really like how it turned out too!
🙂
