2020 and now 2021 have been the years where we’ve all been spending more time at home than ever before. I’ve really gotten more into home décor the last few months and have actually been working my way down my todo list of rooms that I want to spruce up! Home décor is such a fun way to express myself and I’ve found myself lost down the rabbit hole of Pinterest all too many nights… 😆
I wanted to share a peek more into a few spaces in my home that are my favorite (and where you’ll usually find me when I’m not at my desk working!). I’m sharing a few tips I’ve picked up along the way and hopefully they will get you inspired to create a home you love!
5 Ways to Create a Home You Love
Know The Space You’re Working With
LOFT zebra print sweater (XS / TTS) | similar white wide-leg pants
Mackenzie-Childs Royal Check Glass Canisters
First and foremost, the space has to be functional for you. Early on in the pandemic, I binged hard on HGTV and have always loved seeing transformation shows like Fixer Upper (huge Chip and Joanna Gaines fan here! 🙋♀️). But, at the same time, I also know that some of the ways in which these homes have been fixed up doesn’t fit with my lifestyle. With two young kids and parents who are working from home, we need a home that has less of an open layout but instead one with definitive rooms and walls.
We do have a few rooms that do double duty — my office also serves as my closet and workout space, the formal dining is also where the kids do their remote school sessions, and the living room doubles as a PE space for the kids when the weather doesn’t let them go outside. It’s not ideal, but I am glad that both my husband and I have our own office where we can work and the kids have space that separate their work from play as well. It fits for our life at the moment and for that, I’m definitely grateful!
I do have to say that one of my favorite spaces is our kitchen. We recently remodeled it, knocking down a couple pillars to open it up more and I am absolutely obsessed! I love that it creates a much better transition from the living room to the kitchen, letting me see the kids while I’m preparing food or cleaning up. Hopefully in the next year or so, we can host some get togethers too!
Choose Colors That You Love
Amazon loungewear set (XS / size down) | Ugg ‘Cozette’ slippers (6 / size up)
Ikea ‘Kronge’ rug | Barefoot Dreams throw | similar duvet cover | faux fiddle leaf fig tree
The colors in your home are one of the biggest ways that you can make your home fit your style. I suggest creating a ‘mood board’ on Pinterest, or making one by hand and cutting out images so that you can get a big idea of what you like — I was actually kinda skeptical about doing this as first, but after doing so, I was able to really understood what it was that I wanted and it streamlined the creation process so much more!
In the case of my bedroom, I wanted to create a space that was serene and relaxing. I went with a color scheme consisting of blues and greens with light pops of yellow. Once I figured out what it was that I wanted, seeing it come to life has been so much fun!
Focus On Smaller Items
round mirror | Love Always, Abby preserved roses | giraffe planter (also here)
glass vase (filled with dried lentils 😆) | faux hydrangeas | similar white tray (love this one)
The small things in your home say a lot about the person you are, and honestly sometimes they’re the most interesting part of someone’s home! From coffee cups to dish towels, you can spruce everything up to make it more ‘you.’ I love giraffes and this planter with preserved yellow roses is one of my favorite décor pieces — I love seeing it every morning on my bedroom dresser!
Meaningful Items

Minted Love Letters Foil Print – 11″x14″, gold, matte brass frame
I love decorating with pieces that have some extra meaning behind them. Personalized art is my favorite and these two custom prints from Minted hang in our master bedroom and make me so happy! Take some of the special items you might have collected over the years and figure out ways to display them in your home — you’ll be surprised how much it really makes a space your own and gives you that extra joy since we’re all spending more time at home than ever now.
Furniture Placement

When I first move into our new home, it was so hard for me to figure out what furniture items would look best where. Since we moved into a home that was previously owned, we took several pictures of how the previous owner had furnished the different spaces, and that actually helped us tremendously with providing a starting point.
If you are worried about moving large items, such as huge dressers or other heavy furniture, I actually hiring a professional moving company! Moving companies, such as Our Truck Moving, do not have to move you to a NEW home. They can move your furniture pieces within your current home, if that is what you are looking for. They are Garland, TX piano movers, so you know that they can handle the big, bulky items. They are Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex movers who are honest, dependable, affordable, and well-equipped, so do not hesitate to call them if you want to move large furniture items around (or if you are moving soon!). Furniture placement in your home DOES help determine the look and feel of your home, so make sure you love the way it looks!

Expressing yourself through your home is a lot easier than you think. At the end of the day, I just find things that I love and cherish! I’m an introvert at heart so I’ve loved the process of decorating and really turning different spaces into havens that my whole family lives in and enjoys. I hope this post has helped inspire you to create a home that you love to spend time in!

Thank you for sharing your experience, I really like the result. The main rule: the larger the room, the larger the picture. A small photo in a spacious room is immediately lost and looks sparse. Therefore, we maintain harmony. In addition, here you can find amazing options for abstract art for living room for every taste.
