Dylan celebrated his 4th birthday party this summer and we threw him a superhero party, at his request! We took advantage of the fact that we had a spacious backyard in our new house and invited all his friends over. It was our first time entertaining a group of people at our place since we moved in but it was so much fun to have so many little people fill our space! The kids loved being able to run around outside (we also set up a few water slides and baby pools for the kids to play in) while the adults mingled and chatted over in our covered patio. While the party was only a couple hours long, almost everyone stayed later and we had such a great time just catching up while the kids tired themselves out! I was a bit wary initially that setting up the party would be stressful, but it actually ended up being a lot of fun as there was just so much to do around the superhero theme. While much of the afternoon was a bit chaotic (what do you expect with a group of little ones right? : ) , I did manage to sneak in a few snaps and wanted to share them with you all today!
For starters, what superhero party would be complete without some costumes? I picked up a few of these cape and mask sets and they were such a hit! Each of the kids picked out their favorite superhero as they walked in and they all loved just running around outside with their capes flying in the wind! It doubled up as party favors too that the kids could each take home and even to this day, both Dylan and Mei love putting on their capes even when we’re just playing around the house.
Delicious Cakes superhero cake

The focus of our treat table was, of course, the cake! We order the large majority of our cakes from Delicious Cakes as their cakes never cease to impress! I booked them first for my wedding and to this day, we still have friends who will tell us that our wedding cake was some of the best they’ve had! I described to them the kind of superhero cake that I wanted and I just love how it turned out! Dylan doesn’t have single favorite superhero so I wanted a cake that had a mix of a few of the ones he always talks about. I also loved the 2-tier layering as that meant we were able to get in two different flavors of cake too — the larger bottom tier was chocolate (Dylan’s favorite flavor, of course!) and the top tier was the almond flavor (it’s seriously the best flavor if you ever order from Delicious Cakes!). The hulk fist punching from the top of the cake was definitely the statement maker and I just loved how the cake came together!

How perfect were these superhero party decorations? I turned to Minted for the party invitations and was so happy to see that they had matching party decorations that tied in perfectly with the superhero theme! It made it all so easy to get everything together and I loved that I could customize it too to make it special just for my birthday boy! There’s always so much pressure to make parties “Pinterest-perfect” and while ideally I would have loved to DIY everything, sometimes there’s just not enough time! So happy that I could turn to Minted and get everything ready in a snap while still impressing all my Mom friends, ha! Dylan loved seeing his face on the party invitation and I loved that they took care of everything including even addressing the envelopes!

We’ve also always had a tradition of having a pinata at our birthday parties (Adrian has said it’s a must for Mexicans!) and this huge hulk one was definitely a hit (pun intended!). The kids went at it for a good 30 minutes before the candy spilled and even the parents loved watching!
This huge waterslide bouncer kept the kids cool and having fun for hours. We’ve actually had it inflated for the majority of our summer and the kids have loved playing in it for hours on end!
The custom invitations and decorations from Minted really helped pull the party together and I’m so happy to be partnering with them to host a $250 giveaway to their site! It’s perfect for the upcoming holiday season (I always use them for my holiday cards and love their foil designs!).
(pin now, save for later!)
A big happy birthday to my big boy!
