Over the past few months, I’ve been really focused on taking care of my skin. With a busy work schedule and a family to take care of, my skin is usually the first place where my tiredness shows through. My skin seems duller, my under-eye circles seem darker, and sometimes I’ll even notice dry patches around my eyes and nose. Of course when I don’t look my best, it translates into how I feel. I’ve been using the PMD Personal Microderm for the past month and (spoiler alert) I have noticed some pretty remarkable results that I just couldn’t wait to share with you!
About PMD Personal Microderm
The PMD Personal Microderm replicates the microdermbrasion treatment that was previously only available in medical facilities. The exact same Aluminum Oxide crystals that are used by professionals are also in the PMD device on the patented spinning discs. The device uses gentle vacuum suction to pull skin towards the disc where the crystals gently slough off dead skin. The result is that brighter, more radiant skin is revealed and the skin can more readily absorb the nutrients in skincare products as well. It’s safe to use on all skin types and helps with issues such as hyperpigmentation (my main issue), acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles (yup, have these too…), and enlarged pores.

The box contains a whole host of goodies: the PMD Personal Microderm device, 7 exfoliating discs, 1 electrical cord, 2 caps (1 large for the body + 1 small for the face), 1 reusable filter, and an instructional dvd and pamphlet. While I was mostly focusing on using this product for my face, there are larger discs provided as well as a larger cap so that the device to be used on the body as well!
How To Use Your Personal Microderm
I don’t always read the manual but in this case, I cannot recommend enough to watch the short 2-minute training video first. The personal microderm does take a little getting used to and if you don’t use the device properly, there are risks that you might irritate your skin. To use, you want to have one hand holding your skin taut as the other hand glides the PMD device. The device comes with the white training disc already inserted and I used this disc on my entire face the first time around.

It’s important not to pass your personal microderm too slowly over the skin nor to pass over the same area more than once. When the PMD is complete running against your skin, you’ll want to make sure to clean out the sloughed off skin inside the head of the device. I actually found it surprisingly satisfying to see all the dead skin that was removed!
As you become more familiar with the PMD and you find that your skin tolerates the level of abrasion, you can work up to more aggressive microdermabrasion heads. For me, I’ve only worked up to the grey “sensitive skin” head from the white training head but love that a wide range of abrasive heads are included in the kit so that I can slowly work my way up!

PMD Anti-Aging Collagen Sheet Mask
Meanwhile the products that you apply onto your skin afterwards can be just as important as the process itself. With the dead cells removed, the skin is now more ready to absorb the nutrients found in your skincare products so providing it with quality ingredients is key. I’ve been using the PMD Anti-Aging Collagen Infusing Sheet Mask following my treatments and I love that each mask is packed with hyaluronic acid to boost moisture as well as collagen to give my skin increased elasticity and firmness. I’ll leave on the masks for a good 20 minutes and I can seriously notice a difference in how supple and smooth my skin feels afterwards — plus it’s such a relaxing / soothing part of my little at-home pampering session!

Even after my first session with the white “training” disk, I noticed a difference with my skin. My skin felt smoother than it had in years and my makeup just glided on as well. You’ll want to spread out the treatments to about every 6-7 days, and I’ve been using my personal microderm on Sunday nights as I get my skin ready for the week. I love that there’s no downtime like with other treatments yet there are some pretty significant results when the PMD is used consistently.
The PMD has been a device that has completely exceeded my expectations and I feel like I’ve take a good couple years off my appearance just with the improved look of my skin! My face just seems to have more of a natural glow now. I also don’t even mind going out without makeup on these days as I’ve just been feeling so much more confident in my skin!

I have been wanting one of these incredibly bad!!! The results look amazing!
I was just noticing the mirror in your post as I’m looking to get an led trifold makeup mirror. What are your thoughts on this one? Is it a good one to buy? Or have you found one you like better?
Hi Julie!
I actually really love this mirror, especially that it has an outlet so I can plug in my tools like a curling wand, PMD device or even my phone while I’m getting ready! It has magnification and different lighting options too so I actually really like that I can see my makeup in different light. I had another basic 2-sided mirror before and this one was a really nice upgrade!
Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this helps!
Kileen

This post is SO GOOD. I’ve been dying to try this device, but I have been a little bit scared to be honest. Your review put me at ease! I also lol’d at your comment about seeing all the dead skin it took off! It reminds me of seeing the nose gunk when you remove a biore strip! Love that haha!
I’d love if you would join me for On Mondays We Link-Up! You posts would definitely shine!

Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. Interesting read.
Sounds like a great device. I’ve been reading a lot about microdermabrasion and it got me interested. I’ve been searching for a device that I could use at home. This is a great review. Thank you so much. It’s now in the list of my things to buy
I’m feeling a bit more encouraged to try this out. And thanks for explaining how to use it.
I love the pampering at my favourite skin care clinic Perth and I was thinking about doing more treatments of my skin so this review was a great thing and gave me something to think about.
Thanks!
