As promised in our nursery reveal from last week, I’ve got lots of home décor coming your way as I’m slowly turning our house into a home! Now that the kids are going back to school, I’m finally having some time to tackle projects of my own! The latest one my list was updating our small bathroom located just off the side of our kitchen. It’s actually the only bathroom in the house not attached to a bedroom and has, out of necessity, become one of the first areas that guests see of our home whenever they visit. For 6 months now, this space has remained basically completely barren. Here’s our sad “before” shot:
Right before I left on vacation, I decided to dedicate a day to adding in some décor and making the space feel homey. I took a couple trips to Target (that store is seriously my savior!) and was able to find everything that I needed to give our bathroom a much needed refresh! I started off with tackling the empty space above the toilet by adding in a couple floating shelves. I was a bit hesitant on installing it myself, but it turned out to be an easy DIY! The set came with a template to help visualize placement on the wall. After ensuring that it was level, I just drilled the screws in and the shelves were mounted!
floating shelves
top shelf: rhino | love object | round glass vase | ball vase filler | fox figurine
bottom shelf: pig planter | picture frame | candle holder
Now on to the styling! I’m still figuring out how to style shelves properly and am basically just tackling it much like I would an outfit — a mix of items with a comment element to tie it all together. In my case, I chose pieces that were metallic. From the gold-etched rhino to the pewter picture frame to the hammered metal candle holder, I loved the way they played off each other despite how their differences. To keep all the metals from looking too gaudy, I added in some white elements including this ceramic pig planter and this fox figurine (actually a salt shaker but it was just too cute!). Dylan saw me working and actually brought in one of his homemade crafts from Christmas a couple years ago. I actually thought it was perfect to go on our top shelf (even if it was Christmas themed!).
hammered metal floor vase | wire basket
And finally, to complete this side of the room, I added in this large hammered metal vase along with a wire basket to hold extra toilet paper rolls. I picked up the Quilted Northern Ultra Soft & Strong® Mega Rolls to fill it up and love how the add the look of softness to the decor!
Then to tackle the opposite side of the room! I picked up some nice towels first and then went searching for something to fill up the empty wall space. These cubes were perfect to go with the floating shelves and I loved that I could display a few more of our knick-knacks to personalize the space.
wood square shadowbox set | ceramic artichoke (old, similar) | owls (old, similar) | glass boxes
These owls were a gift from my mom years ago and it was nice to finally have them in a nice display! For the other box, I mixed in a couple of o ur favorite books and stacked a little white artichoke figurine just to balance it out.
Adding in a few more items next to the sink and finally, this side of the bathroom was done!
Now for the completed “after shot”:
I love how everything came together and how with a few simple additions! These Quilted Northern Mega Rolls are actually 4 rolls in 1 and I love that I don’t have to worry about refilling it all the time. Best part about these rolls is that even though they’re supersized, I don’t need to buy anything to I found my 12-pack located at the end cap of the cleaning products area of my local Target and you can even save 20% off right now with the Cartwheel coupon (expires 8/20/2016)! To avoid running out of toilet paper, Target even has a subscription service — you save an extra 5% this way and don’t have to worry about last-minute trips to the store!
I hope you enjoyed this little bathroom reveal! It’s amazing how a few simple touches can go a long way to really making a space feel like home!
Quilted Northern is running a sweepstakes and you don’t want to miss it:
