I grew up with a love for travel and have always had a bit of wanderlust in me. As a child, my parents made a point to book at least 2 family vacations every year and as a result visited nearly all 50 states by the time I entered college. Since then, I’ve made more of a point to check out international destinations and have been to Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, England, Belize, Cabo San Lucas, and most recently, Jamaica! Now that I have two little ones, our travel has slowed down a bit as it’s hard to really sightsee with a baby that still needs a multi-hour nap in the middle of the day, but hopefully in a year or two we’ll be picking it back up again! And while I love seeing and experiencing different parts of the world, having to pack and live out of a suitcase is probably the toughest part of the whole process. was so excited when eBags contacted me to review their Lipault Paris line of suitcases as I was in definite need of a suitcase upgrade. All of my suitcases were well over 10 years old, were difficult to maneuver, and felt like they were made out of bricks!
The first thing I noticed about the Lipault Paris line is that they have such fun colors! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve confused my previously black bags with someone else’s in the sea of black suitcases on the baggage claim carousel. The first thing that I noticed with these bags is just how incredibly light they are! My luggage is always bordering on being overweight and I’m always struggling with handling large pieces of luggage anyways, so having something light makes a huge difference! Even the large 28″ bag is only 6 lbs! Meanwhile I love, love, love the spinner wheels and the bags just glides like a dream — I know it’ll be so convenient when I’m trying to juggle the kids in one hand while holding onto my kids in the other. I’m also a notorious overpacker (a girl’s gotta have options, right?) and I can definitely appreciate all the extra space and compartments of these bags. There are multiple divided areas both on the inside and outside that make organization so much easier!
When it comes to picking out what to wear for traveling, I opt for light layers with pieces that are soft and wrinkle resistant. This jacket is a new favorite of mine and I have no doubt that it’ll be getting lots of wear this Fall! I love the waterfall drape and the crepe-like material is lightweight while still providing warmth if needed. While the length is a bit longer than I initially preferred , the “duster” silhouette is actually starting to grow on me! To add a little bit of shape, I knotted the waist tie in the back which cinched it in just a bit to create a subtle hourglass shape. I paired the look with these espadrilles as I tend to wear my bulkiest items instead of packing them to save the weight expense and these wedges just happen to be comfortable and easily walkable too!
Hats are also one of my favorite accessories, especially in the Fall, but instead of packing it in my suitcase, I generally opt to wear it on the trip. I’m a bit paranoid about my hats losing their shape so I generally just make a point to keep the hats on my head to avoid losing them during transit. Next on my wishlist is this suede hat — I love the wider brim and contrasting trim!
And now for a few of my packing tips:
1. Use produce bags to cover shoe bottoms. Shoes are always tricky to pack but one tip that I live by is to reuse old grocery store produce bags and cover the soles of your shoes to prevent them from dirtying up your clean clothes. These bags are thin and easy to tie together in a knot (plus I just always have them on hand!). Another option is to use a shower cap to slip on the bottoms of your shoes if you have those available — I just never seem to remember to pick them up before I leave on trips!
2. Invest in a good jewelry organizer. My jewelry used to always be such a mess whenever I traveled and I would spend a good chunk of time detangling everything once I arrived. I’ve since purchased this travel jewelry case and am in love with it! It has the perfect size compartments on each side to hold small earrings and a necklace or two, while the center area is perfect to hold all my rings and earrings!
3. Throw a dryer sheet into your suitcase for freshness. The dryer sheet will absorb any nasty odors and prevent it from transferring onto your clean clothes!
4. Tape down toiletries. I’ve had my toiletries come open a few instances and it’s always such a mess to clean up! Instead, I’ve found that if you use a strong packing tape and seal the containers shut, they stay intact pretty well even through pressure changes!
5. Roll up socks and underwear to store inside of shoes to keep their shape. Doubles up as a space saver too!
6. Have a stash of hydrating facial skincare products available in your carry-on. I personally carry a couple face masks, a good moisturizer, a face oil (also own the full-size and LOVE!), as well as a hydrating facial mist.
