The Texas summer heat is in full swing here and as a stay-at-home mom now, my days are filled with activities like trips to the park, waterbabies swim classes at the pool, and exploring in the dinosaur sandpit at the museum. I’ve been simplifying my everyday routine and summer beauty has always been about natural looks that are quick, easy, and sweatproof. I wanted to share a few beauty essentials I’ve been loving lately and the best part is that they’re all from the drugstore!
To start off, let’s talk about this new favorite sunscreen of mine. It’s hard to find a good sunscreen that isn’t loaded with chemicals, but this babyganics sunscreen is simply wonderful. It’s mineral based which means that instead of being absorbed into the skin, it just sits on top of the skin and blocks the harmful rays from penetrating through. This sunscreen is light, tear-free, non-sticky, and doesn’t leave any sort of white film after being applied. With a SPF of 50+ and water resistant for 80 minutes, both Dylan and I have been using this every day before we head out and it’s been an absolute savior!
On the makeup front, I needed a waterproof mascara (I was looking like a panda on our pool days!) and decided to try the new Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal mascara. With my thin, sparse asian lashes, this mascara gives it some major volume! I love that I can just go with a single coat and be on my way out the door. It’s held up all day without any smudging, flaking, or fallout and has been easy enough to remove with a swipe of some coconut oil that I typicall use as my eye makeup remover.
As for removing my face makeup, I’ve long relied on these cleansing wipes from simple. They’re gentle on my skin, don’t have any weird smell, and leave my face feeling fresh and not dried out.
When my skin is feeling a little dry, I’ve been using this newly-released Yes To Coconut Light Spray Body Lotion. The formula is light and rubs in instantly without any greasy feel afterwards. The nozzle is also designed to lock easily so I can carry this in my bag without any worry of leaks or spills. The coconut scent is subtle and not overpowering, perfect for the summertime!
And last but not least, a fun summer nail polish color! I couldn’t help but pick up the new Essie ‘Sunday Funday’ and it’s such a bright coral shade that just makes me happy. The polish is creamy and there’s a hint of silver shimmer that picks up in the sunlight. Surprisingly enough, it’s also been longwearing as I’ve had this pedicure for over a week now with no chips or signs of wear!
I picked up all these goodies at my local Walgreens and there’s actually a current Gift With Purchase promotion going on from now until 8/30. Get a coupon by texting a code or visit this link for a FREE travel-size make-up brush set, a gift with any $20 beauty and personal care purchase (excluding baby category)!

I love the Simple wipes! I am very interested in the body lotion spray, I never heard of it before
Ooh, i've never seen that Yes To spray before!
The babyganics spray sounds great.
Kileen – I searched your blog, but couldn't really find anything about your pregnancy (e.g., clothes worn, etc.). Would you be able to do a post regarding that? I'm curious what type of clothes you wore for an office environment, etc.
Sunday Funday is one of my favorites; the name & color really do it for me. I love Maybelline's regular Colossal mascara, I need to try one of the variations! As for the sunscreen, does it smell weird at all? The Honest Co cream sunscreen smells… Weird. Like stale herbs? I like the Honest Co spray sunscreen better but that one leaves a major white cast. Before I ran out of coconut oil, I used to use it as a super moisturizing lotion/treatment, smells wonderful.
Hi Candice! I actually didn't blog through my first pregnancy so unfortunately none of what I wore is documented. I bought most of my maternity work clothes from A Pea In the Pod as I found their styles to be petite friendly and stylishly professional. I mostly bought shirts and tops as that's where I grew the most and usually went for more fitted styles that I felt like actually flattered the bump. I was lucky in that I was able to still wear my same skinny jeans through my entire pregnancy and have them held up with a belly band from Target. For more casual pieces, I found a few things here and there from Target and Gap but that's about it. I know ASOS also has a great maternity line so do check them out too!
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions! 🙂
Hi Mariko! I don't find that the babyganics spray sunscreen has much of a scent. It also thankfully rubs into the skin with a few quick swipes and it's easy enough for me to use on Dylan who hates having sunscreen applied. I was curious about the Honest Co. one but knowing that it has a weird scent, I think I'll pass. I can definitely recommend this babyganics one!
I'm so intrigued by all of these finds! I haven't tried that mascara yet but am a total sucker for any Maybelline mascaras! #client
Hi Kileen,
Thanks for the suggestions on where to purchase maternity work clothes. I'll have more questions to ask you in the future. Hope you don't mind. 🙂
Not at all! And if you're pregnant, congratulations!! 🙂
Great post. I have used that mascara before. I'm seeing a lot of that nail polish around, I should try it.
