I always joke with my husband, Adrian, that he wears the same color palette every single day (usually a mix of blue or grey 😂) and here I am basically doing the same! I’ve been drawn to all the blue tones lately as you can tell with this outfit that’s super similar to my last outfit! I guess it just goes to show that when you love something, you get it in all the different varieties. But really, this midi skirt is easily one of my favorite finds of the summer as I absolutely love the slimming slip style and the blue floral print just gives off that feminine delicate vibe (get 15% off through July 31 with code KILEENJULY15!).
Midi skirts can sometimes be a bit tricky when you’re petite (only 5′ tall here! 🙋♀️) but it’s honestly such a flattering silhouette when styled correctly, so I’m sharing my top 3 easy tips!
How to Wear a Midi Skirt When You’re Petite
1. Accentuate The Waist
Step one when it comes to styling a petite frame is to always accentuate the waistline. Have the skirt sit at your natural waistline, the most narrow part of your upper body, and tuck in your top so that it tapers to really show off those curves. Another option would be to choose a crop top that naturally ends at the waist to also give the illusion of an hourglass shape!
This white lace cami is one of my closet staples — I wear it alone when I’m out and about in the summertime or layer it under cardigans / blazers once the weather gets cooler. It’s on sale now for under $25 and such a great piece to stock up on in multiple colors!
2. Add Some Height
Because midi skirts end around the calves, it can easily make your legs look shorter than they are. Counter this by pairing midi skirts with a simple heel to elongate the legs. The added bonus of heels is I also find that it helps me stand up a little straighter as it shifts my weight, in turn also helping add some height to pull off the midi skirt style!
These white sandals are another summer must-have — this pair has been in my closet for 2+ years and still looks like new! Pick it up for 40% off right now while most sizes are still in stock!
3. Go Light & Airy
Don’t let a heavy fabric weigh down your petite frame. Choose a lightweight fabric with movement, and trust me, it’ll transform how you look and feel when wearing your midi skirt. This particular skirt from Amaryllis is cut on the bias, making it incredibly slimming, and it’s also fully lined so you can swish and twirl to your heart’s content! I just love the subtle asymmetrical hem and it’s under $30 right now with my code KILEENJULY15 — it’s only valid until July 31 so hurry!!

Love these tips! I’m petite too and midi skirts can be tricky but when you find the right type of skirt, it’s totally doable! And in fact, can be very lengthening 😉

I love how you styled this look, because it looks really cute. Really good tips for being petite too. I actually find myself tucking my tops in the same way but I am def not petite. Maybe I need to change it up LOL!
I love midi skirts with all my heart, and I’m grateful that they’re easy to find for my longer build. But YES – they totally work for petite frames as well, and you’ve styled yours perfectly. This outfit is so beautiful, and the skirt you picked is right up my alley. Gorgeous and comfortable for the summer weather.
I love midi skirts! Because I’m petite I’m very picky about these because they’re not always flattering on me. 🙁

I love your tips, these are all seriously so helpful! As a shorter person, it’s so hard to make many dresses and skirts work for me, but this is all so great to know. Thank you!
I absolutely love a cute midi skirt! Being tall (5’11”), I wear them all the time, but my shorter cousin is always saying that she wishes she could wear them, too. I’m 100% sending this article over to her right now.
Accentuating the waist is a great tip! As is going for a light and airy feel.
