Styling Ideas: Bright Neon Yellow

It’s been awhile since I did one of these inspiration collages and since I’ve been wearing yellow just about every other week here, I figured I’d make a collage of some of my favorite looks featuring a bright, neon yellow top.  Yellow used to be one of those colors that I consciously avoided as I feared it would clash with my yellow Asian undertones, but I’ve since discovered that sometimes it’s just about creating the right pairing!  Here are a few of my tips for wearing this latest trending color of the season:

1.  Pair yellow with floral (see #1, #11)
Yellow is such a cheerful sunny color that pairing it with a floral print just seems too obvious!  When yellow and floral are paired together, I keep the rest of the outfit simple and neutral.

2.  Pair yellow with black/white (see #2, #9)
Almost everything will pair easily with black and white, but the trick with yellow is to avoid looking like a bumblebee!  For me, I usually will add an additional pop of color — a bright orange statement necklace (like in #9) or a pair of leopard print (like in #2) are great options.

3.  Pair yellow with pastels / neutrals (see #4, #10)
A neutral or pastel pairing can make a bright yellow top seem less loud.  A light beige, pink, or grey would look perfect paired with pink.  If the look borders on looking a little washed out, try adding a pop of color with a bold necklace, bag, or belt!

4.  Tone it down with a scarf (see #4, #5, #7)

And if you’re still thinking that yellow is just too bright for you, a scarf is a great way to cover up a bit of the brightness and tone down the overall look.  Scarves are one of my favorite accessories as they really can take an outfit from ordinary to unique!
